Senate Democrats, including Joe Manchin and Krysten Sinema, betrayed their Americans and their own supporters by passing a bill with massive new taxes. The “Inflation Reduction Act,” which is really a climate change bill, was going to close a loophole so billionaires were forced to pay their “fair share.”
Instead, Sinema was able to strip the part of the bill out, making sure that only working and middle-class families would see their taxes increase. The bill will soon be voted on by the House, where “socialists” like AOC have long demanded billionaires pay more in taxes. But can this “socialist” really vote yes on a bill that once again protects billionaires and does nothing for Americans?
Folks back home had a few things to say about it.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s constituents weighed in on how Democrats removed a proposed tax hike affecting billionaires from the Inflation Reduction Act in order to pass the massive spending bill and its climate initiatives.
“The billionaires are the people with the power to really change whatever it is that we’re trying to change,” one man, Daniel, told Fox News. “We shouldn’t vote for it if that’s something that’s not being addressed.” […]
“The whole bill is a mess,” one man, Tom, told Fox News. “It’s a feel-good bill so the Democrats can say they did something and maybe they won’t do so badly in the upcoming elections.” […]
“I don’t really trust anything that the government has going on when it comes to the climate or when it comes to really anything,” Zion told Fox News…
“It’s always going to be for the betterment and the protection of people who are at a higher social and economic status than people like myself and people that reside in this area,” he said. [Source: Fox News]
Funny how the “regular people” in AOC’s district have a better understanding of how this works than some people in Congress. Or, at least, they are more honest about what’s going on than AOC and her allies.
Bernie Sanders himself complained about this bill, that it wouldn’t reduce inflation or even lower healthcare costs. Yet the hypocrite still voted for it.
Will AOC—who is up for re-election—do the same? Can she vote on a bill that rewards the very people she claims to hate, and still pretend that she is a “Democratic socialist” who cares about the people?
We can’t predict the future, but chances are AOC and her socialist “squad” will pass this bill with flying colors. Like most socialists in Congress, she is in no way interested in punishing the super-rich who got her elected. Most of the policies she (and other socialists) supports only end up hurting the middle and working classes—who end up paying higher prices, taxes, or losing their jobs.
But the people of her district seem to have made up their minds. They are not fans of this bill. And she will have to answer to them if she votes for it.
