Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas ordered that more walls be built along the border between Texas, Mexico, and New Mexico. The governor says that building walls along the border in El Paso forces people to come into the U.S. through New Mexico and then cross the Rio Grande into Texas.
Texas is building more barriers “along the New Mexico border,” according to a post made by Gov. Abbott on X. The governor also said that the migrants now cross into New Mexico because of the walls that have been built along the border between Texas and Mexico in El Paso.
Abbott said that the aliens then go from New Mexico to El Paso. He said, “To stop that, we are constructing a wall along the border with New Mexico.”
The construction of the barriers will occur around the point where the Rio Grande abruptly turns north, dividing El Paso from the New Mexico county of Dona Anna.
What the governor of Texas ordered is part of Operation Lone Star in the state.
Texas has begun constructing miles of razor-wire fencing and 30-foot bollard walls, among other kinds of border obstacles.
Governor Abbott said on X earlier in the month that the state is approving additional financing for border barriers during the Texas Legislature’s third special session, which is now in session.
