The heart of America is breaking, and it’s breaking in places like Chicago, where lawlessness runs wild and innocent children are being gunned down in their own neighborhoods. This is not the America our Founding Fathers fought for. It’s not the America President Trump is fighting to restore. And it sure isn’t the America hardworking families like the Salley family deserve.
Marquita Salley, a mother from Chicago’s South Side, lost her 16-year-old son, Gregory Bernard Wilson III, to gun violence. He was shot in an alley—right behind their home—while his family was inside. His mother and brother were just steps away when Gregory took his last breath. Let that sink in. This isn’t a war zone overseas—it’s an American city. And it’s not just any city. It’s a Democrat-run stronghold, where leadership has turned a blind eye to the chaos on its streets.
Marquita is not alone. Her mother, Gaynelle Simmons, says it plainly: “Crime has gotten worse.” And she’s right. In her day, a kid could walk to the store or play outside without fear. Now, families lock their doors, afraid to let their children walk to the corner. What kind of freedom is that? What kind of future are we leaving behind?
The people in charge of Chicago have failed. They have chosen policies that protect criminals instead of protecting families. They have allowed gangs and thugs to take control of the streets, while refusing help from the one man who offers real solutions—President Donald J. Trump.
President Trump has offered to send in the National Guard to bring order back to the Windy City. But what does Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker say? No. The same people who claim to care about “justice” and “community” are rejecting the very help that could save lives. They say they don’t want a “military presence.” But what about the presence of gang members with guns? What about the presence of drug dealers on every corner? What about the presence of fear in every home?
Gaynelle Simmons said it best: “What have we got to lose?” She understands what’s really at stake. When good people are afraid to walk outside, when children are buried before they can graduate high school, when mothers are forced to identify their child’s body in a hospital—then it’s time to act. It’s past time.
This is not about politics. This is about life and death. This is about restoring law and order. This is about protecting America’s families, especially in places where Democrat leaders have failed them for decades.
What makes this even more tragic is that Gregory wasn’t some hardened criminal. He was a regular boy. Sure, he got into fights like kids do, but he wasn’t dealing drugs or robbing anyone. His life was stolen by someone else’s bad choices—choices that were shaped by a city that refuses to take crime seriously.
But out of this heartbreak, the Salley family is trying to bring light. They started the Gregory B. Wilson III Foundation to help children in their community. They host back-to-school giveaways, they throw big celebrations, and they do it all out of their own pockets. Why? Because they believe in giving back, even when the government won’t lift a finger.
This is the American spirit—strong, generous, and rooted in faith and family. But they can’t do it alone. They need support. They need leaders who will stand with them, not hide behind woke politics and failed policies.
It’s time to take our cities back. It’s time to stand up for families like the Salleys. It’s time to put America First, and that starts by protecting our streets. President Trump is ready to help. Let’s pray Chicago’s leaders finally do the right thing and accept it—before more mothers are forced to bury their children.
