The war on faith in America just hit another flashpoint, and this time it’s happening in one of our biggest cities. The Moody Bible Institute, a respected Christian college in Chicago, is suing the Chicago Public Schools for religious discrimination. Why? Because the school district is trying to force Moody to give up its biblical values in order to participate in a student-teaching program.

Let’s be clear: this isn’t about “fairness” or “equality.” This is about power. It’s about a government-run school system trying to bully a Christian college into rejecting its beliefs just to play ball in a public program. And that, my fellow patriots, is not just wrong—it’s unconstitutional.

Moody Bible Institute trains future teachers who want to serve their communities. These students are required to complete classroom hours through a student-teaching program. But when Moody tried to join Chicago’s teaching program—after getting state approval in January 2024—the city slammed the door in their face. Why? Because Moody hires only people who live according to Christian teachings. That includes following biblical truth on things like gender and sexuality.

Chicago Public Schools said Moody could only join the program if it signed two nondiscrimination agreements. These agreements would force the college to hire people who reject its faith, which would destroy the very foundation of its mission. In other words, CPS told Moody: “Change your beliefs or your students can’t teach here.”

That’s not tolerance. That’s tyranny.

Moody tried to compromise. It asked to change the language in the agreement to make room for its legal right to hire people who live out the Christian faith. But CPS refused. They stuck to their rigid “nondiscrimination” policy, which seems to mean Christians need not apply.

Now, let’s talk about hypocrisy. CPS claims it’s just following the rules. But the lawsuit points out that other religious schools with similar hiring practices are still allowed to participate. So why target Moody? Could it be because it sticks to the Bible without apology?

Even worse, CPS has its own so-called “Equity Framework” that promotes race- and gender-based hiring goals. So they bend the rules when it suits their agenda, but crack down when Christians stick to their values. That’s selective enforcement, plain and simple. And it’s wrong.

This isn’t just about lawyers and paperwork. Real students are being hurt. Moody’s future teachers can’t complete the classroom work they need to graduate. They can’t get licensed to teach in Illinois. And all because the city’s school leaders care more about pushing woke ideology than helping kids learn.

Let’s not forget—Chicago Public Schools has a budget of over $8 billion. And still, they can’t fill hundreds of open teaching positions. They need help. But instead of accepting qualified, hard-working student teachers from Moody, they’re shutting the door because of faith.

Jeremiah Galus, senior counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, said it best: “Chicago desperately needs more teachers… but public school administrators are putting personal agendas ahead of the needs of families.” That’s the sad truth.

This lawsuit is about more than a college. It’s about the First Amendment. It’s about religious liberty. The Constitution doesn’t give CPS the right to tell a Christian college how to hire its staff. And it sure doesn’t give them the right to punish students because their school believes in the Bible.

Moody is right to fight back. This is what courage looks like. When government overreaches, when it starts telling faith-based groups what they can and can’t believe, we must stand our ground. That’s what our founders did. That’s what our Constitution defends.

This case should be a wake-up call. If they can do this to a Christian school in the heart of America, they can do it to your church, your children, and your freedoms. We must defend the truth. We must protect our rights. And we must never, ever surrender our faith to the demands of a godless bureaucracy.

It’s time for the courts to step in and remind Chicago—and every government agency—that in America, freedom of religion still matters.
