We’ve now approached the part of the gun control debate where Democrats try to trick well-meaning Americans into believing their Second Amendment rights won’t be infringed upon.
While anyone paying attention knows this is a complete lie, Democrats are pointing to the bipartisan nature of recent legislation negotiations as proof that the Second Amendment won’t be threatened for law-abiding Americans.
Why exactly are Republicans giving Democrats even an inch on the gun control topic?
They should all be steadfast in their willingness to protect the Second Amendment at all costs, no matter the tragedy. No amount of pressure from Democrats or anti-gun lobbyists should sway one GOP lawmaker into giving any concessions on gun control.
Congress is talking about changing the nation’s gun laws but won’t touch the idea of banning “assault weapons,” according to several lawmakers, despite Biden’s plea to do so.
Democrat Sen. Chris Murphy said on Sunday the current negotiations in response to the recent spate of mass shootings are spurring the most serious and productive talks he’s ever been a part of.
“There are more Republicans at the table talking about changing our gun laws and investing in mental health than at any time since Sandy Hook,” Murphy revealed.
Major conversations on the table are about hashing out what Congress might do to expand background checks for people looking to purchase guns, establishing red flag laws, and making large investments in mental health systems, Murphy said. Texas does not have a red flag law in place, though Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) said he would be open to talking with Murphy to learn more about them.
Lawmakers are also considering raising the age requirement for purchasing AR-style semi-automatic weapons from 18 to 21, which is the current requirement for purchasing a handgun.
Cornyn recently tweeted about Senate negotiations over gun control restrictions. Even with all the cooperation, there won’t be a vote to restrict anyone’s Second Amendment rights, Cornyn said.

On Sunday, Murphy said he agreed with Cornyn.
“We’re not going to do anything that compromises people’s Second Amendment rights,” Murphy said.
“We’re not going to do anything that compromises the ability of a law-abiding American to be able to buy a weapon. What we’re talking about is trying to make sure that dangerous or potentially dangerous individuals don’t have their hands on weapons.”
Meanwhile, the only way the federal government can determine whether or not an individual is “potentially dangerous” would be to intrude on the rights of gun owners who are in no way dangerous.
Regardless of tragedy, our Second Amendment rights are non-negotiable.
No amount of bipartisanship justifies any gun control measures, especially as it’s become increasingly obvious this is all being done to score political points.
Now’s the time for Republicans to reconsider their approach for a change. Instead of giving in to Democrats’ demands, it’s imperative that they heed constituent demands and fight for Second Amendment rights at all costs.
Americans do not want to be disarmed, especially as it’s become glaringly obvious just how tyrannical the federal government truly is.
