Democrats Will Stop At Nothing To Prevent Trump’s Return To Power

The Democrats are growing desperate to prevent the inevitable takeover. Whether it be another presidential run in 2024, or the less-likely theory of a House Speaker bid in 2022, there’s no denying that Trump is carefully crafting his return to the political stage.

This week the House Democrats unveiled their plan to stop Former President Trump from becoming Speaker of the House in 2022.

Rep. Brendan Boyle, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, introduced legislation that would increase limitations and requirements for House Speaker eligibility. After firebrand GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz suggested that Trump run for the position, Rep. Boyle and the Democrats quickly sought to halt that possibility.

The bill requires potential Speakers to be lawmakers in the House, thus making Trump ineligible for the role.

“The speaker of the U.S. House is second in the United States presidential line of succession. That Donald Trump’s name would even be tossed around as a potential speaker in the people’s house, should serve as an alarm bell that our current requirements need to be amended in the name of protecting our nation and our democracy,” Rep. Boyle said of the bill.

Boyle named the bill the Mandating that being an Elected Member Be an Essential Requirement for Speakership, or MEMBERS Act. Such a ridiculous name is fitting for a bill as asinine as this one.

Gaetz has not only suggested that Trump run for the role, but is actively campaigning for it.

Campaign material from the Gaetz camp reads:

”How great it will feel when … we make our next Speaker of the House Donald J. Trump.” Another portion of the letter includes a big red button that says: ”Join me: Let’s get Trump as Speaker.”

Donald Trump has acknowledged this theory roaming around D.C. circles. In a recent interview he called the move “very interesting” after the host urged him to run in 2022. It was also suggested that as House Speaker, Trump launch criminal investigations against Biden and his family with the intention of impeachment.

Although the speaker, who is second in line to become president, does not have to be an elected member of Congress, every speaker in U.S. history has been a House member.

Trump has floated the potential for a 2024 presidential run and later said he does not want to hold the gavel.

A spokesperson for Team Trump said the Former President “has no desire” to bypass a 2024 presidential bid with a run for House Speaker.
