DeSantis Donors Show Signs Of Buyer’s Remorse

Donors are reportedly reconsidering their support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) in the event that he decides to run for president in 2024. They are dissatisfied with the way in which he has dealt with a number of issues in recent months, such as the flooding in Fort Lauderdale and abortion, as well as the fact that he has refrained from fully opposing the person who is expected to be his main rival if he enters the race: former President Donald Trump.

As DeSantis continues to duck direct inquiries about a 2024 presidential run, unease has been building.

The question is, DeSantis said, “Wouldn’t you really like to know?” When a curious reporter questioned DeSantis in February about if he will formally enter the presidential campaign like former U.S. ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley.

Republican megadonors anticipate a formal declaration as the general public waits for it. As popular as the governor was during the coronavirus outbreak, sources suggest that the politician is starting to have some problems with donors who are becoming increasingly unhappy with the politician.

According to Rolling Stone, for instance, a number of these significant contributors voiced their displeasure with the governor’s handling of current crises in a group chat that the publication independently confirmed.

One forum member asked, “What the fuck is wrong with RD?” in reference to DeSantis’s response—or absence thereof—to the severe flooding in Fort Lauderdale. The governor was conspicuously missing during the most critical time of the historic problem because he was out of town giving speeches. He later proclaimed a state of emergency for Broward County while he was in Ohio that week for the Lincoln Day celebration of the Butler County Republican Party. The following week, he spoke at Liberty University and went to a gathering in New Hampshire. Even the previous president of the United States, Donald Trump, commented on the conduct of his possible challenger, saying to Breitbart News, “He should not be campaigning right now. He ought to be there.”

One group chat user, according to Rolling Stone, wanted to know the best way to get in touch with DeSantis to “complain.” It also lists various grievances made by these important contributors, one of which DeSantis calls Ukraine a “territorial dispute.”

A source told the publication, “My perception is that the message was: ‘If we preferred a fucking MAGA person, we would make a donation to Donald Trump,’” a sign of the fading support for the governor. Others also want the governor to take on Trump more openly.
