Florida Joins Republican States to Pass 15-Week Abortion Ban

Florida Joins Republican States to Pass 15-Week Abortion Ban

Democrats have a big problem on their hands. And I’m not just talking about their dismal prospects for the midterm elections. Ever since Mississippi dared to pass a strict, pro-life law, numerous conservative-lead states started following. The most notable was Texas, which banned abortions after 6 weeks, the “heartbeat” bill. Democrats overplayed their hand by taking these laws to the Supreme Court. And we could be just weeks away from seeing Roe v. Wade overturned.

Since this development, other states have started moving toward banning abortion early on. Arizona’s state Senate just passed a bill that bans abortion after 15 weeks. Much like the Texas law, it won’t criminalize a doctor but subject them to civil penalties and fines. Now, yet another red state is joining the fray. Florida’s state House just passed a bill of its own.

Florida’s House of Representatives passed legislation Wednesday seeking to ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

After the Republican majority in Florida’s state House passed the abortion ban with a 78-39 vote, it was sent to the state Senate for consideration, which has signaled it will also pass the bill, according to a Reuters report…

Florida’s Senate bill does allow exceptions to the ban. However, it requires “the directors of certain medical facilities and certain physicians to submit a certain report to the Agency for Health Care Administration monthly,” according to the bill’s summary. [Source: Daily Caller]

If anyone still considered Florida swing state, they haven’t been paying attention. The state House just passed a bill banning abortions after 15 weeks. And it appears this bill will sail through the state Senate as well. All that would be left is for their governor, Republican Ron DeSantis, to sign it into law. It’s very likely he will do so.

For years, we’ve watched as Florida moved more and more to the right. The state went for Trump in 2016. And he won it by a larger margin in 2020, by roughly 400,000 votes. The state has two Republican senators and a strong, conservative governor—who has protected the state from cruel mandates and lockdowns.

It’s not much of a surprise to see Florida passing a strong, pro-life bill. This is in keeping with the direction they are moving in. The state has gotten so red, that DNC is refusing to invest lots of money into state races, knowing it would be a waste.

This bill is even possible, thanks to the current battle going on at the Supreme Court. The court’s conservative majority might very well rule to give abortion regulation to the states. If that is the case, every Republican-led state could pass strong pro-life bills in the coming months. Do you think that’s going to hurt their chances in the midterms? Hardly.

Such a move would be a huge win for conservative candidates since a majority of Americans are opposed to abortion. It would strike a huge blow against the Democrats, who often funnel money through Planned Parenthood for campaign donations. But if more states ban abortion, a major source of money for the left will dry up.
