President Trump is right to be angry. The American people chose him to lead, and that means he has the Constitutional right to appoint the people he trusts to key roles—like U.S. Attorney for New Jersey. But instead of helping him do that job, Senator Chuck Grassley is standing in the way. Worse yet, he’s siding with Democrats to block Alina Habba, a strong conservative and loyal Trump ally, from being confirmed.
This is not just about one position. This is about power, fairness, and the future of our justice system. The Democrats have weaponized every tool at their disposal to stop President Trump from doing what he was elected to do. And now, some Republicans are helping them. That’s unacceptable.
Alina Habba is more than qualified. She’s tough, smart, and loyal to the Constitution. She’s the kind of no-nonsense prosecutor we need in a state like New Jersey, where crime and corruption run deep. But the Democrats don’t want someone like her cleaning house. So they’ve pulled every trick in the book to block her.
First, they got Obama-appointed judges to declare she isn’t lawfully in office. Then, they pressured federal judges in New Jersey not to renew her term. When that didn’t work, they leaned on old Senate traditions—like the so-called “blue slip”—to keep her from being confirmed.
The blue slip is an outdated custom that lets home-state senators block judicial and U.S. Attorney nominees. It’s not a law. It’s not in the Constitution. It’s a relic. And it’s being used by Democrats to stop President Trump’s nominees. Even worse, Senator Grassley is letting them do it.
This is the same Chuck Grassley that President Trump helped re-elect when he was down in the polls in Iowa. The same Grassley who has called himself a conservative. But now, when it really matters, he won’t lift a finger to help the President. That’s not leadership. That’s cowardice.
President Trump made it clear: this is about standing up for the Constitution and the rule of law. He has the duty and the right to appoint people who will fight for justice. People like Alina Habba. But if one Democrat senator disagrees—just one—Grassley says that’s enough to block the whole thing.
And guess what? That means Trump can’t get strong conservatives confirmed in the very states that need them most—New Jersey, New York, California, Illinois, and others. These are places where crime is out of control and corruption is everywhere. But instead of sending in the best people to clean it up, Grassley would rather protect some old Senate custom.
President Trump is asking for courage. He’s asking Senator Grassley to do what Democrats have already done—break free from the blue slip trap. Joe Biden ignored the blue slip when it suited him. So did other Democrats. Why should Republicans play by rules the other side doesn’t follow?
This is about more than one appointment. It’s about whether we let the Democrats keep running the show, even when they’re not in power. It’s about whether Republicans have the spine to fight back. It’s about whether the will of the people—who voted for Trump—means anything at all.
Senator Grassley has a choice to make. He can either stand with the President and the American people, or he can continue to hand over power to the Democrats. The time for excuses is over. The time for action is now.
We need strong, conservative fighters in every corner of the country. We need Alina Habba confirmed. And we need Republican senators who actually act like Republicans.
Senator Grassley, do the right thing. End the blue slip scam. Let President Trump do his job. Let America win.
