Hopes for Semiconductors in U.S. Shattered as Congress Refuses to Pass New Bill

Hopes for Semiconductors in U.S. Shattered as Congress Refuses to Pass New Bill

Thanks to COVID (and the scheming of Communist China) the manufacturing world has been suffering a semiconductor shortage for two years. This shortage has slowed down the production of everything from smartphones to cars. The massive delays in auto manufacturing have driven the prices of both new and used cars to astronomical heights.

But companies in the United States had a plan. Enough was enough, we’ll just make those chips here. Makes sense, right? If COVID taught us anything it’s that we were far too dependent on foreign companies for basic materials. Many plans were announced to build chip plants in the United States.

All those plans have come grinding to a halt, however, thanks to the imbeciles in Congress.

Major projects to increase the United States’ manufacturing capacity for semiconductors have been put on hold as supporting legislation has been delayed in Congress…

[L]awmakers proposed the $52 billion CHIPS for America Act. However, because the funding has not yet reached chipmakers, Intel, TSMC, and GlobalFoundries issued “public warnings” that they might “scale back their plans to make semiconductors” in the United States, according to the Department of Commerce…

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger, for example, said at a recent panel event that he might increase chip production in Europe due to legislative delays in the United States. “The rest of the world is moving rapidly despite the inability of Congress to get this finished,” he remarked, noting that Asian countries are also passing new incentives. [Source: Daily Wire]

How pathetic is that? Democrats pretend that all the economic crises hitting this country have nothing to do with them—and that they are working on solutions. But one obvious solution is sitting on their desk, and they do nothing with it.

Companies were promised funding from Congress to help kickstart these semiconductor plants. Yet Congress has done nothing with this legislation—and companies are threatening to end their plans or move to other countries.

Brilliant. We are back at square one—no chips and moving production overseas—because this Congress is more concerned with their “J6 Commission.”

Do Democrats care about America at all? This bill would have been an easy sell to Americans. Promise that this funding would help bring down the prices of new cars and electronics and maybe ease the pain of inflation.

Instead, these clowns are too stupid to see a win when it slaps them in the face. In Texas, the state is taking matters into its own hands, offering $18 billion in state funds to build a factory. But few states can offer that kind of incentive to companies.

Federal funding is often the engine behind changes. Companies would easily pay back those grants, once they are earning a profit. But if Congress can’t pass one bill that will help the American people… what good are they?
