We wrote about how they talked to Ben Shaffer, a SWAT sniper who had been working the gathering in Butler, PA. He said it was “odd” that the FBI quickly threw away the shooter’s body and cleaned the roof after the killing.
But podcaster Dan Bongino, who used to work for the Secret Service, got very angry when he talked about the problems with the agency. He made three points and didn’t hold back on how bad he thought this was.
First, he said that they had a “technology problem” because “tomorrow they’ll be using yesterday’s technology. Everything is old,” he said.
Second, he saw issues with the way they were spending money. He said that you can’t have “more with less.” He said that even though their budget went up, “a 20-year-old thief beat them on a $40 piece of drone technology… that’s disgusting!”
Third, he told them to focus on the main purpose of their job, which is security, and get rid of the research parts, like going after counterfeiters.
Next, he answered some questions from Congressmen and said that things were worse now under Director Ronald Rowe than under Director Kim Cheatle, who quit in shame after the failed murder.
“If you think this won’t happen again, you’re out of your mind,” Bongino said. “We’ve seen these kinds of things happen before.”
He talked about the Georgia bomb situation with President Bush in May 2005, in which Bush was hit with a real grenade. He said that the people who made mistakes in the Trump case were still in charge. He called Rowe a liar and said that he was the one who was worried about agents wearing red ties because he thought that showed support for President Trump.
“This is what they were thinking about when they didn’t give the most controversial man on Earth counter-surveillance and counter-sniper equipment. That’s not the service I worked for, so good luck if you can explain it,” Bongino said.
