During a recent segment on MSNBC, Mike Spies from The Trace made a shocking suggestion: America should consider banning handguns, just like Australia. Yes, you read that right—handguns. The very tools millions of law-abiding Americans use every day to protect their homes, their families, and their freedom.
Let’s be clear about who we’re dealing with. The Trace is not a neutral news outlet. It exists for one reason—to push gun control. Funded by anti-gun billionaires and left-wing donors, The Trace spends its time attacking the Second Amendment and trying to convince Americans that more government control will make us safer. Nothing could be further from the truth.
During the MSNBC roundtable, host Katy Tur claimed that “the majority of Americans don’t own guns” and that “the majority of Americans want stricter gun laws.” She offered no evidence. Maybe that’s because the facts don’t support her claims. According to recent reports, Americans own more than 490 million firearms. That number keeps growing every year. Gun sales hit record highs under the Biden administration, and they’re not slowing down now. Why? Because Americans know their rights are under attack, and they’re preparing to defend them.
Mike Spies took it even further. He said that current gun laws are outdated and that red flag laws don’t go far enough. Then he dropped the hammer: “There are just simply way too many firearms, and they are way too accessible.” Tur quickly added, “And they’re way too powerful?” Spies agreed and said even handguns are too powerful.
Let’s stop right there. The left used to talk about banning so-called “assault weapons.” Now they’re coming after handguns. That’s right—the kind of firearm most Americans choose for personal defense. The kind of firearm that fits in a nightstand or a holster. That’s their new target.
Spies then praised Australia’s gun control model. Back in 1996, Australia forced citizens to hand over hundreds of thousands of firearms in a massive government buyback program. It was nothing short of confiscation. The people had no say. They were disarmed by force. And that’s the “solution” Spies wants for America?
Let me make something very clear: Australia is not America. We have a Constitution. We have a Bill of Rights. And we have the Second Amendment, which plainly states, “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” The Founders knew that an armed citizenry is the last line of defense against tyranny. That truth still stands today.
The left doesn’t want to talk about the Constitution. They don’t want to talk about the millions of times each year that guns are used in self-defense. They don’t want to talk about how criminals don’t obey gun laws. What they want is control. And to get it, they need to disarm you.
But we’re not going to let that happen.
We the People will not surrender our rights to unelected bureaucrats, media elites, or billionaire-backed activists. We will not accept a future where only the government and criminals have guns. We will stand up, speak out, and vote to protect our freedoms.
President Trump understands this. He respects the Constitution. He believes in the right of every law-abiding American to defend themselves and their families. That’s why under his leadership, the Second Amendment is safe.
But the fight isn’t over. Every time a gun control activist opens their mouth, they reveal their real goal: total disarmament. We must stay alert, stay involved, and never back down.
Because once we lose our right to bear arms, we lose everything else. And that is a price we must never pay.
