With only 21 days until the midterm elections, two critical demographics, independents and women voters, are strongly favoring the Republican Party.
According to a New York Times/Siena College poll released on Monday, independents, women, and independent women have gone substantially behind Republicans on the generic vote since Sept. The survey sampled 792 registered voters between Oct. 9 and 12, with a margin of error of four points.
Independents have shifted nine points in support of Republicans within only 30 days, as have women (13 points) and independent women (32 points).
Republicans are leading Dems. by ten points among independents and by 18 points among independent women.
According to surveys, independents and female voters have changed their support to Republicans, owing in large part to the Democrats’ record-high inflation, notably skyrocketing food prices. According to a Pew Research Center survey, 80% of mothers claim they are the household’s principal food buyer.
The most evident sign of inflation is rising grocery prices. Food prices at home increased by 0.6 percent between September and August. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, supermarket costs have risen 13% in the last year.
“Core CPI, which excludes volatile energy and food costs, increased 6.6 percent year over year,” Breitbart News’ John Carney said on Oct. 13. “This is the highest rate of core inflation since the year 1982, above the recent highs of 6.4 percent in Feb. and March. Core prices rose 0.6 percent from the previous month.”
According to a Heritage Foundation research, rising prices mean that incomes are down $6,000 after correcting for inflation. This is an increase from an earlier forecast that put the real salary drop at $4,200.
“People are extremely upset,” E.J. Antoni, a Heritage fellow, tells Fox Business. “These figures aren’t driven by the cost of caviar and yachts. It’s the necessities, the fundamentals. It includes items such as eggs, milk, flour, and soup. These are items that have increased by 20 to 30 percent over the past year.”
Americans blame President Joe Biden and the Dems. for the rising cost of living. According to a recent study, 66% of independents say Biden has “somewhat” or “seriously” mishandled the economy. Only 27% of independents support Biden’s economic stewardship.
