According to testimony from Raul L. Ortiz, the U.S. Border Patrol Chief, almost 1.5 million migrants have secretly crossed the border as President Joe Biden opened up the doors to a flow of migrants from the south.
He said at a hearing in Texas hosted by the House Homeland Security Committee that the revised estimate includes the 1.3 million successful “gotaways” that were discovered by border patrol agents and surveillance technology, as well as around 200,000 additional untracked migrants.
Alejandro Mayorkas, Biden’s pro-immigration border commander and a Cuban native, has permitted about 4.2 million economic migrants to enter the country since January 2021, according to Ortiz’s estimate and agency data.
For every one of the 3.7 million births in the United States in 2022, that influx produced more than one immigrant, which also contributed to the inflation that caused several large banks to fail.
“If there are 1.3 million [spotted] runaways that we are aware of, what is your estimate of the runaways that we are not aware of?” This is the question that Rep. Carlos Giminez (R-FL) posed to Ortiz.
Ortiz responded:
“I’ll let you know that the gotaway number is one that has long been connected to field examinations. Our operatives were the ones that actually traversed the country, utilizing their footprints as a guide to what they were observing. That served as our situational awareness.”
“With the expenditures made by this Congress in the Border Patrol CBP in general, including balloon-mounted cams, we now have more situational awareness than we’ve ever had. I’m getting more and more confident in those gotaway statistics. Is there complete confidence? No, sir.”
“This fiscal year, which began on October 1, has seen 385,000 getaways. We keep revising that figure. I need to be more accurate in recording the actual encounters.”
“I estimate that there are between 10 and 20 percent more untracked gotaways based on my situational awareness.”

In addition to the 2.7 million migrants who have been permitted to cross the border since January 2021, Ortiz estimates that 1.5 million people have fled.
This influx totals 4.2 million, or more than one immigrant for each of the 3.7 million births in the United States in 2022.
However, since January, Biden has used his “parole channels” to bring in at least 70,000 migrants. The influx is expected to total 600,000 per year, on top of the one million legal immigrants that were allowed by Congress in 1990.
