The Department of Justice under the Biden administration didn’t just lose sight of its mission to keep schools safe—it turned the mission upside down. Between 2021 and 2024, the DOJ poured more than $100 million into promoting left-wing ideological indoctrination in K-12 schools, according to a new investigation by Parents Defending Education (PDE). That’s $100,113,942 spent on 102 grants in 36 states, affecting nearly 3 million students across 946 school districts. Instead of addressing actual school safety issues, the funds were squandered on buzzwords like “diversity, equity, and inclusion” and social and emotional learning, much of which was loaded with radical leftist dogma.

The DOJ’s STOP School Violence Program, ostensibly designed to “increase school safety,” turned into a slush fund for projects steeped in woke ideology. Forget protecting kids from violence—this money went to consultants promoting “restorative practices,” which is bureaucrat-speak for replacing discipline with feel-good group therapy sessions. Kids who disrupt the classroom are no longer removed; instead, they sit in circles to talk about their feelings. And social and emotional learning? It’s often a Trojan horse for embedding LGBTQ activism and other progressive causes into the curriculum.

PDE president Nicki Neily summed it up perfectly: “It’s appalling, although not surprising, that DOJ bureaucrats would prioritize DEI initiatives over student safety.” Of course, it’s not surprising. When has this administration ever shown concern for the issues that matter most to ordinary Americans?

Take Pennsylvania, for example. The DOJ handed over $1.7 million to Penn State for a project emphasizing racial trauma and anti-bias education. In California, a million bucks went to a program in Jurupa Valley Unified School District focusing on LGBTQIA+ issues. In New Jersey, Ocean County got another million to fight “teasing” by equating it with “oppression.” And let’s not forget the $2 million Bowling Green State University received to teach students in rural areas yoga and knitting—because, apparently, that’s what stops school violence.

The kicker? Many of these grants explicitly focused on “disproportionately impacted” groups like LGBTQ students and BIPOC communities, all while ignoring the broader school safety issues plaguing millions of students across the country. It’s as if they’ve forgotten that parents want safe classrooms, not indoctrination centers.

Meanwhile, President-elect Donald Trump—who made stopping this nonsense a centerpiece of his campaign—is gearing up to take office. Trump’s hard-hitting ads exposing Democratic extremism on gender and education were a masterstroke, connecting with millions of parents fed up with the woke agenda infiltrating their kids’ classrooms. His incoming administration promises to clean up this mess, and not a moment too soon.

Let’s be clear: this is what happens when Democrats are in charge. They’ll spend millions on ideology but can’t seem to find a dime for actual solutions.
