This week, candidates endorsed by Trump, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) and Rep. Austin Theriault (R) of Maine State, emerged victorious in their congressional primaries.
The Associated Press (AP) reports that Mace defeated her Republican opponents with 21,030 votes or 57.8 percent of the total vote. They called the race on Tuesday at 8:40 p.m.
William Young, a former Marine, received 5,090 votes, or 13.7% of the vote, while Catherine Templeton, the former head of the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, received 10,486 votes, or 28.6% of the vote.
In a post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump supported Mace for reelection in March, stating that, among other things, she had “fought hard to secure the border, strengthen our military, support our veterans,” and avoid political weaponization. Mace had “worked hard campaigning across South Carolina.”
According to the AP, Theriault, who ran for Maine’s second congressional district and earned Trump’s endorsement in March, received around 9,248 votes, or 66.0 percent of the total vote, while his opponent, Michael Soboleski, received 4,756 votes, or 34.0 percent. Tuesday, at 8:52 p.m., was the call time for the race.
Trump declared that Theriault would “work hard to protect our constantly under siege Second Amendment, Secure the Border, Stop Crime, Cut Taxes, and Support our Brave Law Enforcement, Military, and Veterans” in his endorsement of the former NASCAR driver and current first district state representative for Maine.
Theriault will go on to face off against Representative Jared Golden (D-ME) in November. According to the Hill, Golden has been serving as the district’s representative since 2019 and is presently seeking reelection for a fourth term.
