Trump Will Skip The Second GOP Debate To Attend A Different Meetup

Former President Donald Trump has decided to forgo the second Republican primary debate scheduled in California in order to give a speech on the same evening in Detroit in support of striking autoworkers.

The schedule, which Trump’s 2024 campaign revealed to CBS News and CNBC, means that the GOP frontrunner is deciding not to debate his Republican challengers for a second time.

Trump skipped the Fox News debate this past month and instead did an interview with Tucker Carlson, who used to host Fox News.

The time and place of Trump’s speech were not clear right away, but he is said to want to talk to hundreds of current and past union members from the car industry and elsewhere.

A couple of days before Trump’s planned speech, the United Auto Workers union stated that it would go on strike against General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis over pay and “economic and social justice.”

Trump stated, “I’m on the side that will make our country great,” when asked whose side he was taking in the car industry conflict during a recent appearance on NBC’s ‘Meet The Press.’ “The leaders of the car workers are selling them down the river, and they should back Trump.”

The head of United Auto Workers, Shawn Fain, hasn’t backed Joe Biden for a second term yet, but he doesn’t seem to be a fan of Donald Trump either.

“Our union is dedicating all of its resources to combating the billionaire class as well as an economy that benefits individuals such as Donald Trump at the cost of laborers,” stated Fain in a statement. “Electing billionaires and millionaires who have no idea what it’s like to be living paycheck to paycheck and barely scrape by is not a sustainable way to address the issues facing the working class.”

The second GOP debate will be held on September 27 this year at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California.

A lot of time and money is being invested in helping President Trump deal with his four criminal indictments, however, the RealClearPolitics average of polls shows that he is still the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination with over 55 percent of the vote among a big group of rivals.
