Trump’s Bold Move: Making Federal Architecture Great Again

President Donald J. Trump is once again standing up for America’s heritage and values. On August 28, 2025, he signed a powerful executive order called “Making Federal Architecture Beautiful Again.” This order puts a stop to the ugly, modern, cold-looking buildings that have taken over Washington, D.C., and other cities across the country. Instead, it brings back classical and traditional architecture—the kind of beautiful, strong buildings our Founders believed in.

This is not just about looks. This is about honoring our history, our culture, and our nation’s greatness. President Trump’s order says it clearly: federal buildings should uplift the public, inspire the human spirit, and show the world that America is a nation of strength and virtue. The Founders wanted public buildings to reflect the greatness of our Republic. They were inspired by the beauty and order of ancient Athens and Rome. That’s why George Washington and Thomas Jefferson made sure the early buildings of our capital followed this classical style.

For over 150 years, this kind of architecture was the standard. But starting in the 1960s, Washington elites turned their backs on beauty and tradition. They brought in a cold style called “brutalism.” These new buildings looked like concrete prisons—massive, gray blocks that feel more like bunkers than places of freedom and justice. The people didn’t like it, and for good reason. These buildings are depressing and don’t reflect the greatness of our country.

To fix this, the General Services Administration (GSA) created the Design Excellence Program in 1994. But like most government programs, it failed. Instead of listening to the people, the GSA gave more power to elite architects who pushed their own modern designs. The result? More ugly buildings that don’t fit the communities they are built in and don’t inspire anyone who walks by them.

President Trump’s new order fixes that. Now, classical and traditional styles will be the default for all major federal buildings—especially in Washington, D.C. Buildings like courthouses, agency headquarters, and other large federal projects will follow this rule. The order applies to construction projects over $50 million, and it excludes infrastructure and entry ports.

This is about more than just buildings. This is about pride in our country. When people walk past a federal courthouse or a government building, they should feel something. They should feel respect. They should feel like they are part of something greater. That is what President Trump is bringing back.

Let’s be clear—this isn’t just a new idea. President Trump tried to do this before, back in 2020. But Joe Biden scrapped it in 2021, like he did with so many good policies. Biden and his allies don’t believe in American greatness. They’d rather tear down our traditions than build up our future. But now, with President Trump back in the White House, we’re restoring what makes America special.

This executive order is part of a bigger plan to Make America Beautiful Again. That includes cleaning up our capital city and even using the National Guard to restore order and pride. Washington, D.C., should reflect the strength and dignity of the American people—not the chaos of failed liberal policies.

This is what leadership looks like. This is what putting America first looks like. President Trump is not just building buildings—he’s building a legacy of strength, beauty, and freedom. He’s showing the world that America will not be ashamed of its past, and we will not accept mediocrity in our future.

It’s time to bring back beauty. It’s time to bring back pride. And thanks to President Trump, that time is now.
