Identity politics is a cancer eating away at the very fabric of American society. Once upon a time, the United States was a melting pot, a place where people of different backgrounds came together under the banner of shared values: liberty, equality, and opportunity. But today, Democrats have traded the dream of a united America for a fractured society, one where people are reduced to their race, gender, or sexual orientation. The results are as predictable as they are destructive: division, resentment, and the death of national unity.
Let’s not sugarcoat it—identity politics is the left’s bread and butter. Democrats have weaponized race, gender, and class to keep Americans fighting with each other instead of looking at the failures of their policies. Why talk about skyrocketing inflation, crumbling infrastructure, or rising crime when you can blame everything on “systemic racism” or the “patriarchy”?
Take President Joe Biden’s infamous pledge to nominate a Supreme Court justice based solely on race and gender. Biden didn’t care about nominating the best candidate; he cared about scoring diversity points. This is what identity politics looks like in practice: qualifications and merit take a back seat to superficial characteristics.
The problem with identity politics is that it doesn’t unite—it divides. By categorizing people into victim groups and oppressors, the left pits Americans against each other. Instead of seeing fellow citizens, people are taught to see enemies. This isn’t accidental; it’s by design. Divide and conquer has always been a powerful political strategy.
Harvard professor and political scientist Robert Putnam once noted that diversity, when improperly managed, can reduce social cohesion. His research found that communities with high diversity often have lower levels of trust and civic engagement. Yet Democrats are doubling down on policies and rhetoric that exacerbate these divides.
Democrats love to preach about “inclusion” and “tolerance,” but their actions tell a different story. If you’re a conservative Black American like Senator Tim Scott or Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, you’re labeled a “sellout” or an “Uncle Tom.” Why? Because in the world of identity politics, your value isn’t determined by your character or achievements but by your allegiance to the leftist narrative.
National unity isn’t achieved by focusing on what divides us; it’s achieved by focusing on what unites us. Americans share a common belief in freedom, opportunity, and the pursuit of happiness. The sooner we reject identity politics and return to those principles, the stronger our nation will be.
The left’s obsession with identity politics is a cynical ploy to consolidate power, but it’s up to conservatives to expose it for what it is: a toxic ideology that tears at the heart of America. It’s time to stop dividing people into categories and start uniting them around shared values.

If conservatives want to save this country, the first step is to reject the divisive rhetoric of identity politics and champion the ideals that have always made America great: individual freedom, merit, and unity.
