President Donald Trump’s bold plan to rebuild Gaza and finally rid the region of Hamas’s terror grip has sent the global elites into a frenzy. Now, China is throwing its weight behind Egypt’s attempt to undercut Trump’s vision—because, of course, Beijing would rather see the U.S. sidelined than leading real solutions.
Trump’s proposal stunned the world last month when he laid out his plan to take control of Gaza, relocate its civilians to neighboring countries, and rebuild it from the ground up. In true Trumpian fashion, he even released an AI-generated video showcasing a modern, thriving Gaza under his leadership. The plan would clear out Hamas’s terrorist infrastructure, remove dangerous weapons, and develop an economic powerhouse where jobs and housing would flourish. But the left and the globalist elite weren’t about to let that happen.
Egypt, terrified of actually having to take in the refugees it so loudly claims to support, scrambled to put together an alternative. At a March 4 emergency summit, Cairo pitched a $53 billion “reconstruction” plan to be funded by—wait for it—the United Nations and “foreign direct investment.” In other words, they want America to foot the bill while doing everything possible to keep Trump’s hands off the situation.
Cue China. Beijing’s Foreign Ministry came out swinging in favor of Egypt’s plan, calling for a “post-conflict governance plan” in Gaza—one that just happens to keep Trump and the U.S. from leading the charge. China, which has long sought more influence in the Middle East, sees this as another chance to push back against Trump’s America First agenda.
Egypt’s so-called “solution” would shuffle Palestinians into temporary shelters inside Gaza instead of relocating them, a move critics say ignores the complete destruction of the region. The plan also fails to address how to actually remove Hamas’s terror network, let alone its vast stockpiles of weapons hidden in civilian areas.
Even the National Security Council isn’t buying it. A White House spokesman noted that the Egyptian plan “does not address the reality that Gaza is currently uninhabitable” and reaffirmed that Trump “stands by his vision to rebuild Gaza free from Hamas.” Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Washington and Cairo are still talking—but with Trump at the helm, one thing is clear: his plan isn’t going anywhere.
