If there’s one thing that never fails, it’s a Disney/Pixar movie. And the cream of the crop of those are flicks from the Toy Story franchise. For over 20 years, the series has come in at the top of the box office, raking in big bucks for the Hollywood studio.
But every tyrant has to fall.
Disney recently outed itself as a far-left gay propaganda tool. Top executives vowed to use the trust it built with Americans for generations to push homosexual and transgender views. As much as 50% of their characters will be LGBT in future movies, shows, and other content. To prove they meant business, they put back in a deleted since in the Lightyear movie where a lesbian couple kiss.
And Americans let Disney know what they could do with this new direction for the franchise.
The latest “Toy Story” spinoff, “Lightyear,” struggled at the box office this weekend, following criticism over a gay kiss included in the kids movie.
The flick brought in a total of $51 million in its three day opening, bringing in $20.7 million on Friday, then dropping off to $16.3 million on Saturday, and bringing in another anemic $14 million on Sunday.
“What the hell happened here?” Deadline queried, not once bringing up the film’s same-sex kiss controversy.
Instead, Deadline suggested the movie came out too soon in the franchise, writing, “this could be a case of going to the Toy Story well too soon, too fast.”
Cultural critic John Nolte at Breitbart dissed the suggestion and emphasized just “how bad” the opening really was.
“Marvel releases two and three movies a year. You mean like that going to the well too soon?” Nolte mocked. “The Lord of the Rings and Hobbit came out every year. You mean like that going to the well too soon?” [Source: Daily Wire]
Hollywood is already trying to make excuses, but this is something we’ve never seen before. A Disney/Pixar movie, about a beloved character for their top franchise, failed to make $100 million in the opening weekend. It even made less than what they expected it would, coming in at a shockingly low $51 million.
Keep in mind there were very few competing movies in theaters. And that this was Buzz Lightyear we’re talking about. Americans didn’t go see this movie, not because Toy Story 4 came out three years ago. But because they didn’t want to subject their children to a gay kiss in a children’s movie!
But there is no way Disney is going to learn this lesson. They will continue to pump far-left anti-American values into their content. And they will keep losing money. Perhaps not until they suffer major damage like Netflix will they open their eyes.
