Mayor Beetlejuice Doesn’t Understand Meaning of ‘Sanctuary City’

During Trump’s tenure, Democrat mayors loved counter-signaling to liberal media outlets by claiming their cities were sanctuaries for illegal immigrants. Sanctuary city mayors openly admitted to harboring migrants that break federal immigration laws — and now they’re forced to deal with the consequences.

It seems the very minute a bus full of illegal border crossers enters one of these sanctuary cities, the mayor immediately erupts in a rage.

RACIST! XENOPHOBE! ANTI-AMERICAN!

You know, the typical slurs progressives use to attack Republicans.

Roughly 75 people who entered the U.S. illegally from Mexico have been bused to Chicago, a sanctuary city.

And while Mayor Lori Lightfoot said Thursday they will be “welcomed with open arms,” she had a strong message for Texas Gov. Greg Abbott “and his enablers.”

“With these continued political stunts, Gov. Abbott has confirmed what, unfortunately, many of us had already known. That he is a man without any morals, humanity, or shame,” Lightfoot said.

She added that the Texas governor transporting those largely coming from Venezuela to her city is “racist and xenophobic” and then called him “unpatriotic” before shaming the bus companies for being “complicit for being a part of this indignity.”

Lightfoot acknowledged Chicago has been a sanctuary for “decades” and that every year, the city “welcomes hundreds of migrants,” adding that those who have arrived are receiving assistance from organizations such as Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army.

Gov. Abbott released a statement following the arrival of that bus.

“First bus of migrants from Texas to sanctuary city Chicago just arrived! Migrants are flooding into our state at a historic rate, thanks to Pres. Biden’s open border policies. Texas will continue busing migrants until the President secures the border,” he tweeted.

In addition to Chicago, Abbott has been sending buses to Washington, D.C., and New York City, which Democratic mayors Muriel Bowser and Eric Adams have also declared to be sanctuaries.

“Mayor Lightfoot loves to tout the responsibility of her city to welcome all regardless of legal status, and I look forward to seeing this responsibility in action as these migrants receive resources from a sanctuary city with the capacity to serve them,” a statement from Abbott said.
