Governor Greg Abbott, fresh off a reelection victory over perennial underdog Beto O’Rourke last week, has made a daring move in addressing the ongoing border crisis: He’s citing provisions in the United States and Texas constitutions to protect Texas from “an invasion.”This follows the resignation of Chris Magnus, President Biden’s director of US Customs and Border Protection, on Friday. Illegal border crossings into the U.S. have increased under Biden, according to Fox News’s Bill Melugin, who has done remarkable work exposing the facts of the border crisis:

Governor Abbott’s action shows that he has little faith in the present admin’s ability — or inclination — to clean up the southern border crisis. It comes after Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas testified today before the House Committee about Homeland Security, saying the Biden government is “working on a daily basis” to address border challenges.

“Do you still believe the border is safe, Secretary Mayorkas?” North Carolina Rep. Dan Bishop inquired, referring to an allegation Mayorkas made last summer before the Judiciary Committee.

Bishop continued by stating that Mayorkas “denies realities” regarding the problem, which Greg Abbott obviously agrees with. Abbott’s directive calls for the deployment of the National Guard to the border, heightened sea and land patrols, an agreement with other states — even foreign governments — to stop the “invasion,” and the construction of a wall along numerous areas of the border.
