Former President Joe Biden returned to his alma mater at Syracuse University on Tuesday for a portrait unveiling in his honor. During his remarks, the 83-year-old spotted Jeffrey M. Scruggs — the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, a accomplished Black man with his own name and his own career — and decided the best thing to do was call him over to the podium and announce to the room: “Doesn’t he look like Barack?”

The man who told Black voters “you ain’t Black” is now just assigning them all the same name. At this point it’s not a gaffe — it’s a subscription service.

Biden didn’t stop there. He waved Scruggs up to the front and said, “I always want to turn around to one guy and say… ‘Barack, what are you doing?’” Then he positioned himself next to the bewildered board chairman and told the audience, “I feel like he should be standing on the right and I should be standing on the left.”

Scruggs, for his part, is a successful attorney and the chairman of a major university’s board of trustees. He is not Barack Obama. He does not look like Barack Obama. He is a completely separate human being who happens to be Black, which in Biden’s deteriorating brain apparently means “close enough.”

Now imagine — just for fun — if President Trump had pulled a random Black man out of a crowd and said, “Hey, you look just like Obama!” CNN would have run a 72-hour special. MSNBC would have convened a panel of sixteen experts to discuss systemic racism in the Republican Party. The View would have demanded impeachment. Again.

But Biden does it and the mainstream media response is… crickets. A couple of outlets ran the story. Most of them buried it. Nobody is calling it racist because the guy with the (D) after his name gets unlimited mulligans on race.

Conservative commentator Paul Szypula nailed it: “If President Trump had done this, there would be race riots by Black Lives Matter and calls for impeachment.” He’s not wrong. The double standard isn’t even hidden anymore. They just don’t care.

Here’s the thing about Biden — this isn’t a one-off. This is a pattern so long it needs its own Wikipedia page.

In 2007, Biden described Obama as “the first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean.” Clean! He called a sitting U.S. Senator “clean” like it was a compliment. Like he was surprised.

In 2019, he told a crowd that “poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids” — accidentally revealing that in his mind, “poor” and “non-white” are the same category.

And then the greatest hit of all — the 2020 classic where he told Charlamagne tha God: “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t Black.” He literally told Black Americans that their race is conditional on voting for him.

And we’re supposed to be the racists? We’re the ones with the problem?

The Syracuse event was supposed to be a dignified ceremony. Biden was there to unveil a portrait that will hang permanently in the Law Library Reading Room. He gave a little speech about democracy and his legacy and how future law students will see his portrait and be inspired.

Instead, the only thing anyone will remember is that an 83-year-old former president pointed at a Black man and called him Barack.

Jill was there, too. You’d think after eight years of public office and another five of retirement, someone in that family would have figured out how to keep Joe from saying the quiet part loud. But no. The filter is gone. It’s been gone for years. And every time it slips, we get another reminder of who Joe Biden actually is when the teleprompter is off.

This is the same Democratic Party that lectures us about racial sensitivity. The same party that calls voter ID laws racist. The same party that spent four years calling Trump a white supremacist. Their guy is out here calling every Black man he meets “Barack” and they can’t even be bothered to issue a statement.

Link Lauren, a podcast host with over 200,000 followers, put it perfectly: “His filter just keeps disappearing and it’s glorious. If anyone else had said they look alike, there would be cries of racism from the media.”

Glorious is the right word. Not because it’s funny that Biden is deteriorating — that part is genuinely sad. But because every single time he opens his mouth without a script, he proves everything we’ve been saying about the Democratic Party for decades. They don’t actually care about Black Americans. They care about Black votes. And the second the camera turns off, guys like Biden can’t even be bothered to learn your actual name.

Jeffrey Scruggs earned his position. He built a career. He chairs the board of a major university. And Joe Biden reduced him to “the guy who looks like Barack.”
