JD and Usha Vance Are Expecting Baby Number Four — And the Story Behind It Will Hit You Right in the Chest

Vice President JD Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance are expecting their fourth child — a baby boy due in July 2026 — and the story of how they got there involves the kind of gut-punch life lesson that the left will never understand. It starts with tragedy, moves through faith, and ends with a family choosing more life.

Try putting that on a bumper sticker, progressives.

In a sit-down with CBS News Sunday Morning, Usha Vance opened up about the conversation she and her husband had been having about expanding their family — a conversation that took on a whole new weight after the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in September 2025. Kirk was 31 years old when he passed, leaving behind his widow Erika Kirk and two children. And it was something Erika said to Usha that changed everything.

According to details shared in Vance's forthcoming book, Erika told Usha she "regretted having only two kids with Charlie." A young widow, grieving the love of her life, and her biggest regret was not having more of him in the world.

"I think it really heightened JD's sense that he'd been talking about this for a while, this sense that there was this possibility of having another kid whom he could love as much as the three that we had," Usha told CBS. She added that Kirk's death "really did crystallize for him, that sense that if you could have that other child, then you would have nothing to regret."

Now, the Vances already have three kids — Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel. Most politicians in Washington would call that a full plate and hire another nanny. But the Vice President of the United States looked at his family, looked at the fragility of life after losing a friend, and said: more.

That's not a political calculation. That's a man with his priorities straight.

Usha, for her part, was characteristically thoughtful about it. "I think I had already started to open my mind to the possibility," she said. "I wouldn't say this was for me in any way the decisive factor, but it came in the middle of a conversation that we were already having."

The couple publicly announced the pregnancy back in January 2026, but the deeper story — the Charlie Kirk connection — is coming to light now as Vance prepares to release his new book "Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith" on June 16, 2026. The book chronicles his return to religious faith and his conversion to Catholicism, and if this chapter is any indication, it's going to be a powerful read.

Vance also appeared on Jesse Watters Primetime to discuss the book and his faith journey. Say what you want about politicians writing memoirs — this one sounds like it was written by a man who actually believes what he's saying.

Here's what the chattering class will miss about this story. They'll try to make it about politics, about "pronatalism," about whatever academic buzzword they've cooked up this week to explain why normal people want families. But this isn't policy. This is a man and a woman who lost a friend too young and decided the answer to grief wasn't less — it was more.

More love. More life. More family.

The left spent years mocking JD Vance for talking about the importance of family. They clipped his quotes, twisted his words, and turned "childless cat ladies" into a punchline. But here he is, not just talking about it — living it. A fourth child on the way, inspired by a friend's passing and anchored in faith.

Meanwhile the baby boy is expected in July 2026. That means by the time summer's over, the Vice President's residence will have four kids running around in it.

God bless every noisy, chaotic, beautiful second of it.
