If you had any lingering doubts about China’s ambition to dominate global institutions, dictator Xi Jinping’s regime just erased them. This week, Chinese officials proudly announced that the World Health Organization’s (W.H.O.) new Pandemic Agreement was shaped by Xi Jinping’s personal “vision.” Yes, you read that correctly: the very man whose regime unleashed the coronavirus pandemic upon the world now claims credit for informing a global health treaty.
Hu Guang, an official from China’s National Disease Control and Prevention Administration, told the state-run Global Times that the Pandemic Agreement was directly “guided by the vision of building a global community of health for all proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.” He boasted that China “played a central coordination role” and was “deeply involved” in drafting the agreement, claiming Beijing put forward amendments with “the spirit of science.”
Let’s unpack the absurdity here. This is the same China that lied shamelessly about the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak in its early, critical stages. This is the same regime that silenced whistleblowers like Dr. Li Wenliang, ruthlessly crushed dissent, and outright destroyed evidence to hide its culpability. The Wuhan Institute of Virology, implicated by world intelligence agencies as the virus’s likely origin, remains cloaked in secrecy, guarded by Beijing’s iron-fisted censorship apparatus.
And yet, here we have China lecturing the world about “true multilateralism,” “solidarity,” and “cooperation.” It’s enough to make your head spin.
Thankfully, under President Trump’s decisive leadership, America is no longer a party to this charade. Immediately upon returning to office in January 2025, President Trump fulfilled his promise to put America First by withdrawing the U.S. from the W.H.O., condemning the organization’s failure to reform itself and its disturbing submission to Beijing’s influence. As President Trump said at the time, the W.H.O. demonstrated an “inability to demonstrate independence from the inappropriate political influence”—with China at the very top of that list.
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. echoed this sentiment emphatically this week, calling the new Pandemic Agreement a superficial document that merely “locks in all of the dysfunctions of the W.H.O. pandemic response.” Kennedy rightly pointed out that the W.H.O. has never taken accountability for its disastrous mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic, and yet it brazenly expects the world to trust it again.
Indeed, the vague language of the Pandemic Agreement offers no assurance of genuine reform. The document is riddled with politically charged jargon like “equity,” but notably absent are concrete, enforceable measures to prevent future pandemics or hold rogue nations like China accountable. The W.H.O. even hastened to clarify that the agreement does not grant it authority to mandate lockdowns, vaccinations, or travel restrictions. In other words, it’s a toothless exercise in virtue signaling that does nothing to address the core problem: China’s deceitful and reckless behavior.
Adding insult to injury, China announced a fresh $500 million donation to the W.H.O.—positioning itself as the organization’s largest state donor now that American funds have been smartly withdrawn. Make no mistake, Beijing is buying influence, plain and simple. Vice Premier Liu Guozhong had the audacity to lecture the world about the dangers of “unilateralism and power politics,” while his own regime engages in precisely those tactics.
These developments should alarm every patriot. We cannot allow unelected global bureaucrats, manipulated by Beijing, to dictate America’s health policies or undermine our national sovereignty. President Trump’s bold withdrawal from the W.H.O. was essential, but we must remain vigilant in resisting China’s attempts to dominate global governance.
It’s clear that Xi Jinping’s “vision” for global health is neither global nor healthy. It’s a dangerous power play, a transparent attempt by Beijing to rewrite history and whitewash its pandemic crimes. America must never again submit to international institutions corrupted by authoritarian regimes. Our sovereignty and our citizens’ health depend on it.
