America is facing a deadly crisis in our cities—and it’s not just about crime. It’s about failed leadership, broken policies, and a war on law and order that has gone on for far too long.
The latest numbers show that New Orleans now has the highest homicide rate of any major city in the country. In 2023, the city had 166 murders, which works out to 46 killings per 100,000 people. That’s not just high—it’s horrifying. Memphis and St. Louis aren’t far behind, with 41 and 38 murders per 100,000 people, respectively. Baltimore and Washington, D.C. round out the top five, each with 36.
Let’s be clear: these cities didn’t get this way by accident. They got here because soft-on-crime politicians have put criminals first and law-abiding citizens last. They’ve tied the hands of police, emptied the jails, and thrown out the rule book in the name of “equity” and “reform.” What they’ve really done is unleash chaos.
While New Orleans has the highest murder rate, Chicago still leads in total homicides, with over 800 in 2023. That’s 800 lives lost in one city. And yet, the same politicians who run these cities refuse to accept President Trump’s assistance offer or the National Guard’s help to make their cities safer. They blame guns, blame poverty, blame everything but themselves. But the truth is, leadership matters. And the leaders in these cities have failed.
This map by Niccolo Conte at Visual Capitalist shows the top 40 murder capitals in the U.S. per 100,000 residents. It shows the number of homicides based on the latest reported data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Now think about who runs these cities. Almost every one of them has been under Democrat control for decades. New Orleans? Democrat. Memphis? Democrat. St. Louis? Democrat. Baltimore? Democrat. D.C.? Democrat. See the pattern?
These are cities that have pushed defunding the police. Cities that have gone soft on prosecution. Cities that allow criminals back on the street the same day they’re arrested. They treat crime like a social issue instead of a moral one. And the result is a body count that keeps rising.
We don’t have a gun problem—we have a crime problem. The Constitution guarantees us the right to bear arms. That right is not to blame for the violence. Taking away guns from law-abiding Americans won’t stop the bloodshed. In fact, it will make things worse. The only people who follow gun laws are the ones who obey the law to begin with. Criminals don’t care about your laws—they care about power, and they prey on weakness.
The answer is not more gun control. The answer is restoring law and order. That means supporting our police, enforcing the law, and locking up violent offenders. It means respecting the rights of citizens to defend themselves and their families. It means putting victims first—not criminals.

We also need to take a hard look at the breakdown of the family and the loss of values in these communities. Strong families and faith-based values are the backbone of a safe society. When those crumble, crime fills the vacuum. No government program can replace the strength of a two-parent home. No social worker can do what a father in the house can do.
President Trump understands this. He has always stood on the side of law enforcement. He has promised to crack down on violent crime, defend the Second Amendment, and bring safety back to our cities. That’s real leadership—and it’s long overdue.
The American people are tired of the violence. Tired of excuses. Tired of seeing our great cities turned into war zones. It’s time to bring back common sense. Time to return to law and order. Time to put America First.
If we want to stop the killings, we need to change the policies. And to change the policies, we need to change the leaders. Until then, the blood will keep flowing, and the politicians will keep pretending nothing’s wrong. But we know better. And we won’t stay silent.
