President Biden along with former President Trump were the targets of Republican candidate for president Ron DeSantis’ very first official campaign trip to Iowa this week.
About 500 people crammed into a church in Des Moines to hear Florida’s governor talk about a range of problems afflicting the nation, such as the nation’s mounting debt, Mexican drug gangs, the influx of millions of illegal immigrants at the southern border, and much more.
The Biden administration has come under fire from DeSantis for “doing all it can in order to make it tougher for the typical family to make enough money to survive and achieve and keep a middle-class lifestyle.”
He said, “Biden is purposefully attempting to kneecap our energy production. Additionally, he is attempting to push Americans to buy electric cars, which would increase our dependence on China as it supplies the majority of the batteries’ raw materials.”
DeSantis criticized the political Left for introducing radical cultural ideas into American institutions, claiming that this has caused “divisions in the society we live in and diminishes merit and achievement.”
“In order to restore sanity,” he stated, “Every major institution in our nation cannot be allowed to go on ideological joy rides; we must be anchored in reality, on facts, as well as by our enduring principles. Identity politics must give way to merit.”
DeSantis blasted public health officials like Dr. Anthony Fauci while praising his performance in reacting to the COVID outbreak. He discussed the necessity to revive the U.S. military because “morale is decreasing and recruiting is struggling.”
“In a time when freedom was in jeopardy,” he said, “We in the state of Florida maintained the line. We refused to enable our state to slip into some sort of Fauci dystopia, where the livelihoods of individuals had been ruined and their rights were curtailed. We defended individuals’ rights. And we made sure our children have the right to attend school in person, just like Governor Kim Reynolds. Florida is a better place because we opted for freedom over fascism.”
DeSantis also attacked Republicans who supported Disney in the state’s recent legal spat with the corporation.
“I’m not giving in on one side. We are in charge of Florida. They are not in charge of Florida,” he said. “I am aware that all these Republicans are aligning together against me to support Disney. But I’ll tell you this: We support safeguarding our kids. We’ll oppose anybody trying to take away their innocence. And there will be no giving in on that issue.”
