Mississippi Drops Gauntlet–Calls on SCOTUS to End Roe V. Wade

Perhaps one of the most important cases to be decided in our lifetime will soon reach the Supreme Court. And it will be a test of the three justices appointed by President Donald Trump.

The last Supreme Court season brought a mixed bag of verdicts. Conservatives were hoping the 6-3 majority of Republican-appointed justices would hand them a variety of victories. Instead, on numerous issues, the court failed to stand up for the Constitution, our rights, and the rule of law.

It made many people wonder, just want do these justices believe in?

Very soon, the court will decide on a case out of Mississippi. The left is challenging a law from the state that bans abortion after 15 weeks. As you can imagine, Democrats are pushing an agenda of abortion anytime, anywhere, for any reason. How has Mississippi responded? They want abortion shut down for good.

Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday to defend “the right of the people to pass laws that protect life and women’s health,” urging the court to overturn Roe v. Wade…

“Roe and Casey are egregiously wrong,” the brief stated. “The conclusion that abortion is a constitutional right has no basis in text, structure, history, or tradition…”

“As a result, state legislatures, and the people they represent, have lacked clarity in passing laws to protect legitimate public interests, and artificial guideposts have stunted important public debate on how we, as a society, care for the dignity of women and their children,” Fitch continued. In a shock move, the state AG wasn’t asking for the court to uphold their pro-life law, but to strike down two major historical rulings that legalized abortion. Fitch cited a case from 1992 and, of course, Roe V. Wade, which effectively made abortion legal. The attorney general is arguing that not only does that ruling disregard our Constitution and values, but it left the issue vague and confusing.

The basis of this entire argument hinges on what the court believes states have the right to do. With the Supreme Court claiming (back in 1973) that the government couldn’t pass laws that restrict abortion, it created significant problems. Not only does Fitch want the court to consider the importance of states deciding their own policies, but how the landmark rulings that legalized abortion are inconsistent with our laws.

How the court decides this case could have tremendous ramifications for the country. Since they decided to hear it, it is unlikely the court will simply keep things the way they are. There is a possibility they would limit their ruling to just this Mississippi law. But considering Fitch’s brief, this case will impact the entire country.

If the court decides that states have the right to limit abortion (or at the very least, interpret Roe V. Wade themselves), then you can expect big changes to come. Conservative states will begin to restrict abortion as much as they can. Hell, in Texas, they’ve already passed a law that will outlaw abortion—depending on this court case.

We could see the heinous, evil practice shot down in numerous states, very soon. It all comes down to one thing: how brave are Trump’s justices?
