The Supreme Court Just Nuked Steve Bannon’s Conviction and the Entire January 6th Witch Hunt Is Officially in Shambles
We’ve been saying it for years, folks. We said it when they dragged Steve Bannon in front of cameras like some kind of Bond villain. We said it when they slapped him with a conviction for the unforgivable crime of telling a partisan congressional committee to go pound sand. We said it when they actually threw him in a federal prison cell for four months — four months! — because he wouldn’t perform for Nancy Pelosi’s made-for-TV kangaroo court. And now the Supreme Court of the United States has said what we’ve known all along: this was garbage from the jump.

Yesterday, the highest court in the land vacated Bannon’s contempt of Congress conviction with all the ceremony of tossing a parking ticket in the trash. Which, let’s be honest, is about how much legal weight this thing always carried — except they made a man sit in prison for it first. Nothing says “justice” like locking someone up and then admitting years later that maybe you shouldn’t have done that.

Here’s what happened for anyone who hasn’t been keeping score. Back in 2022, the House January 6th Select Committee — that distinguished body of impartial truth-seekers hand-picked by Nancy Pelosi after she rejected the Republican nominees — issued a subpoena to Steve Bannon. They wanted him to come testify about his conversations with President Trump. Bannon’s lawyers said hold on, the President invoked executive privilege over those communications, so we can’t just hand them over like yesterday’s mail. A completely reasonable legal position that lawyers have made on behalf of presidential advisers for decades.

But this was the January 6th Committee. Rules didn’t apply. Precedent didn’t matter. They wanted a scalp, and Steve Bannon’s head was going on the wall whether the law agreed or not. So they referred him for criminal prosecution, Biden’s DOJ happily obliged, and a D.C. jury convicted him on two misdemeanor counts of contempt of Congress.

Let’s pause on that D.C. jury for a second. Getting a conviction against a Trump ally in Washington, D.C. is about as difficult as getting a standing ovation at a Springsteen concert. The deck was stacked from day one, and everybody in that courtroom knew it.

Bannon reported to the federal prison camp in Danbury, Connecticut in October 2024 and served four months behind bars. Four months of his life, gone. For exercising a legal privilege that every White House adviser in modern history has relied upon at some point. When he walked out, he told reporters he was “far from broken” and went right back to hosting War Room. Because that’s what you do when the government tries to make an example out of you and you refuse to flinch.

Fast forward to yesterday. The Supreme Court threw out the appeals court ruling that had upheld Bannon’s conviction and sent the whole thing back down to the lower courts. Why? Because the Trump Justice Department — now run by people who actually care about things like “the law” and “fairness” — reviewed the case and concluded that dismissal was “in the interests of justice.” The trial judge can now toss the conviction entirely, and that’s exactly what’s expected to happen.

Now, the usual suspects will tell you this is purely symbolic because Bannon already served his time. They’ll wave their hands and say it doesn’t really matter. Don’t believe them for a second. This matters enormously. A criminal conviction follows a person for life. It affects everything from employment to reputation to how history records your name. Vacating that conviction is the Supreme Court saying, in the clearest possible terms, that the process that put Bannon behind bars was fundamentally flawed.

And let’s talk about what this means for the broader January 6th saga. This committee was supposed to be the silver bullet. The thing that would finally, permanently end Trump and everyone around him. They held primetime hearings with Hollywood production values. They leaked selectively to friendly reporters for months. They referred criminal charges against a sitting president. They were so certain of their own righteousness that they didn’t even bother pretending to be bipartisan.

And now? Their signature prosecution just got vaporized by the Supreme Court. Their subpoena power has been exposed as the partisan weapon it always was. The man they sent to prison is free, vindicated, and broadcasting to millions of listeners every single day.

Meanwhile, Peter Navarro — another Trump adviser who was convicted on the same contempt charges for the same reasons — is watching this closely. Don’t be surprised if his case follows the same path right into the shredder.

This is what accountability looks like, folks. Not the fake kind where politicians hold show trials and pat themselves on the back. The real kind, where the justice system eventually corrects course and admits that maybe — just maybe — weaponizing congressional subpoenas against your political opponents and then throwing them in federal prison isn’t what the Founders had in mind.

Steve Bannon took the hit. He did the time. He never backed down, never apologized, never begged for mercy from people who had none to give. And yesterday, the Supreme Court proved him right.

The January 6th Committee is dead. Its convictions are falling. Its members have scattered to lobbying firms and cable news green rooms. And Steve Bannon is still standing, still fighting, and now officially a free man with a clean record.

Sometimes justice is slow. But when it finally arrives, it hits like a freight train.
