Washington In Chaos As Trump’s Potential Arrest Sparks Anger, Threats

After former president Donald Trump declared on SiriusXM’s Breitbart News on Saturday morning that he anticipated being arrested next week in connection with Bragg’s office’s investigation into a hush-money scheme involving Stormy Daniels, Rep. Russell Fry (R-SC) attacked the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

Fry remarked, “I think it’s awful and I believe it’s unprecedented. You have a district attorney who is under fire from his own side and virtually everyone else for how he has conducted himself while in office.”

Listen:

“I think they’re downplaying crimes, they’re choosing not to prosecute specific crimes, and, you know, as you indicated earlier, he’s Soros-funded and here we are, reviving an eight-year-old case that various law enforcement agencies and prosecutors have refused to prosecute,” Fry continued. “It’s unprecedented in my opinion, and I find it to be really irresponsible.”

Fry is a freshman congressman who received support from Trump in his election victory over former congressman Tom Rice (R-SC), who was one of the ten House GOP members who voted to impeach Trump over the Jan. 6 Capitol disturbance.

Fry, a lawyer, currently serves on the Judiciary Committee and the Oversight Committee, two of the top House investigative committees.

Fry responded that they could look into any possible federal collusion that may have taken place in the case when asked by presenter Matthew Boyle whether congressional Republicans on the committees may take action with the Manhattan district attorney’s office in light of Trump’s remarks.

“I believe you could, especially if the federal government made an effort to work with the district attorney’s office. The fear that many people have that there are two distinct types of justices is kind of brought up by that, I believe,” Fry added.

He mentioned additional issues, such as the Justice Department’s handling of confidential materials found at the homes of President Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

“I believe that when they observe this kind of action from a law enforcement standpoint, they are correct to be concerned. Why do we have two sets of, or in this example, two extremely similar fact patterns, but two distinct results, if justice is truly blind?” Fry enquired.

In a statement this afternoon, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) reaffirmed that House Republicans would look into Bragg’s office and referred to Bragg as a “radical DA who lets deadly felons walk while he chases political vengeance against President Trump.”

McCarthy stated that the investigations will focus on whether federal money was being used to “subvert our democracy by intervening in elections with politically motivated charges.”
