WH Press Sec.Karine Jean-Pierre expressed her concern on Tuesday, describing it as “shameful” for governors of border states to transport undocumented immigrants to states and cities that have declared themselves as “sanctuary” areas.
Jean-Pierre made these remarks during a CNN appearance as she began her 2024 duties at the White House: “The transportation of migrants, their placement on flights, it is disgraceful that such actions are taking place. Instead of… if the governor genuinely wants to address this matter, he should engage with the senators in his state.”
Critics promptly pointed out that if the federal government had been effectively enforcing immigration laws, the number of undocumented immigrants in the country would be significantly lower. They argued that by declaring themselves as sanctuaries, leaders in these cities and states had essentially invited the current situation.
“Nobody enjoys confronting the adverse consequences of their decisions,” noted Greg (@harmfulopinion) through X.
“It’s disgraceful to make Democrat voters confront the repercussions of the policies they supported,” Rita Panahi concurred.
“Hypocrisy alert,” Tom Moore commented. “Sanctuary city mayors enthusiastically accepted federal funds and engaged in virtue signaling, but they are unwilling to shoulder the actual responsibility that comes with caring for undocumented immigrants. WH Press Secretary KJP is echoing feigned outrage in support of liberal mayors.”
“I mean, they brought it upon themselves. That’s not even remotely caustic; it’s precisely the consequence of declaring yourself a sanctuary city,” remarked Robert Patrick Lewis.
“Oh, KJP. These ‘sanctuary cities’ have chosen, in violation of our Constitution and human trafficking laws, to aid human trafficking and undocumented immigrant criminals. So, as long as [Joe Biden] keeps our border open, ‘sanctuary cities’ are the only logical destination for them,” replied another.
In this same interview, Jean-Pierre asserted that Biden had accomplished more in two years in office than other presidents had in two terms.
