Special Counsel Jack Smith is frantically tying up every loose end in his investigation into Donald Trump, all in a desperate bid to exit the scene before the president-elect can fire him. According to the New York Times, Smith has been hard at work trying to close out his federal cases against Trump before January, hoping to retire before Trump is back in office and ready to deliver on his promise to boot Smith out within “two seconds” of taking the oath.
Smith is telling his team to start planning their goodbyes, instructing them to wrap things up as quickly as possible so that nothing of substance is left when Trump takes office. This whirlwind shutdown includes closing the book on his so-called investigations into Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election and the now-infamous “classified documents” case, which a Florida judge had already tossed out back in July. DOJ sources say they’re doing a “final review” of Smith’s election-related case, which is code for “we’re dropping it.”
With Trump’s massive victory in the 2024 election, it’s game over for Smith’s hunt. DOJ regulations have long upheld a policy that prevents them from prosecuting a sitting president, which means that after January 20, Smith’s circus act is officially canceled.
Sources told the Times that Smith is still drawing up his endgame, even starting to prep exit reports summarizing his so-called “findings” and “decisions.” Let’s just say that whatever he turns in will likely be thin on substance and heavy on spin. After all, this is the same guy who put on a year-long “investigation” spectacle that led nowhere. Last week, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan paused deadlines in Smith’s 2020 election case, putting the brakes on a case that should’ve been DOA in the first place. Smith had actually asked for this pause, and his filing pretty much said it all: “As a result of the election held on November 5, 2024, the defendant is expected to be certified as President-elect on January 6, 2025.” In plain English, Smith sees the writing on the wall.

The Left’s DOJ weaponization efforts are crumbling. Jack Smith, once hailed by liberals as their man to “get Trump,” is now running for the exits. Trump’s victory means a reset—one where our institutions can start doing their real jobs instead of chasing imaginary crimes. The American people rejected the Left’s endless investigations and smear campaigns, and Jack Smith’s hasty retreat is the final proof.
