And then everyone clapped. The eagle shed a single tear. Obama appeared in a beam of light and whispered “yes we can.” The end.

Look, we need to talk about this, because it’s genuinely one of the most delusional things a sitting member of Congress has said in recent memory — and that’s a HIGH bar when you share a chamber with people who think men can get pregnant.

AOC posted this little fantasy over the weekend, claiming that former Trump voters are coming to her because they’ve “expanded their media diet” beyond conservative sources. Translation: they stopped watching Fox News and started reading Jacobin, and now they want to redistribute your 401k.

Let me paint you a picture of what AOC thinks is happening in America right now: Your uncle — the one with the Gadsden flag bumper sticker and the “Come and Take It” doormat — is apparently sneaking up to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at the grocery store and whispering, “Ma’am… how do I become a socialist? I’ve seen the light. Please take my guns and give me government healthcare.”

That’s what she wants you to believe. That’s the movie playing in her head.

Now, is it POSSIBLE that one confused person approached her at some point and said something vaguely positive? Sure. Anything’s possible. But “MAGA voters keep pulling me aside to join socialism” is like me saying “supermodels keep pulling me aside to ask about my thoughts on monetary policy.” It’s technically unfalsifiable. It’s also obviously ridiculous.

The social media response was exactly what you’d expect. Thousands of people pointing out that this has the same energy as those LinkedIn posts where a CEO claims a homeless man taught him about leadership at a Starbucks. Pure fantasy dressed up as a humble brag.

But here’s what’s actually interesting about this: WHY is she saying it?

Because the Left is terrified. They’re looking at the numbers. They’re watching working-class voters — Hispanic voters, Black men, union households — drift toward Trump and the Republican Party. And they don’t have an answer for it.

So AOC does what AOC always does: she creates a narrative. She manufactures a reality where the trend is actually going HER way. Where the great unwashed masses of MAGA country are secretly yearning for free college and the Green New Deal. Where she’s not losing the argument — she’s actually WINNING it, and the evidence is all these private conversations that conveniently have no witnesses.

It’s cope. That’s all it is. Grade-A, industrial-strength political cope.

The truth is that AOC’s brand of socialism has never been LESS popular with working Americans. People who work for a living — who pay taxes, who fill up their gas tanks, who buy groceries — are not sitting around thinking “you know what would fix this? More government.”

They’re thinking the opposite. They’re thinking “leave me alone.” They’re thinking “stop spending money you don’t have.” They’re thinking “why is everything more expensive and why does the government keep making it worse?”

That’s not a pipeline to democratic socialism. That’s a pipeline to whoever promises to get the government out of the way. Which is, last time I checked, not AOC’s pitch.

But she can’t admit that. She can’t look at the realignment happening in American politics and say “wow, we’re losing people.” Because her entire brand is built on being the voice of the working class — even though she went from bartending to a $174,000 salary and a Met Gala wardrobe faster than you can say “tax the rich.”

So instead we get fan fiction. We get these little stories about secret converts whispering in hallways. We get the political equivalent of “my girlfriend goes to a different school, you wouldn’t know her.”

Here’s my favorite part: she says these supposed converts are people who “expanded their media diet.” Which means, in AOC-speak, they stopped consuming information she disagrees with and started consuming information she approves of. And THAT’S what converted them.

Think about what she’s actually saying there. She’s saying conservative media is the only thing keeping you from being a socialist. That if you just stopped watching the wrong channels and reading the wrong websites, you’d naturally come to her side.

That’s not an argument. That’s an insult. She’s telling 75 million Trump voters that they only believe what they believe because they’re too stupid to find the “right” information.

And she wonders why she’s not converting people.

The reality is simple: MAGA voters aren’t pulling AOC aside. They’re not whispering about socialism. They’re laughing at this clip the same way the rest of us are — because it’s genuinely, objectively hilarious.

Keep dreaming, Alexandria. The revolution isn’t coming. But the midterms are.
