Are Republicans Turning Their Backs On “America First”?
Since the strikes on Israel by the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas, all of the Republican presidential contenders have made it clear that they fully back Israel.

Additionally, they have attacked President Biden’s Middle East policy. Donald Trump, who used to be president, said that if he were to return to office, he would be tough and promise to respond strongly to enemy threats.

“If you spill a single drop of blood from Americans, we are going to spill a gallon of yours,” Trump said on October 28 at the GOP Jewish Coalition Yearly Leadership Summit in Las Vegas. “The attack on Israel happened because Joe Biden was weak. More people are killed because he is weak, because evil only wants one thing: unwavering power.

Israel’s war with Hamas has put foreign policy back at the center of public debate.

Republicans running for office have tried to attack the Biden administration, saying that his policies have made Iran stronger, which is said to have supported Hamas.

Ron DeSantis, the governor of Florida, spoke out against Biden’s policies toward Iran. He wanted tougher sanctions against the Iranian government to stop its allies, like Hezbollah, Shia forces in Iraq, Houthis in Yemen, and others, from making the conflict worse in the area.

DeSantis said, “I urge Joe Biden: quit playing footsie with Iran. Be tough on Iran, hit them hard, and don’t give up your oil money.”

“I am glad Joe Biden is expressing some of the correct things,” said Nikki Haley, who used to be governor of South Carolina. “But what he did didn’t always match what he said. You don’t get friendly with Iran if you support Israel.”

An enemy of Iran has used drones and rockets to attack US military bases in the Middle East. The Biden administration has directly blamed Iran for these actions. In response, US troops attacked two buildings in eastern Syria that they said were being used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and other groups with ties to Iran.

Trump has shown that he is still a supporter of Israel by talking about his policies as president and saying that he “fought for Israel like no other president before.” In addition, he has said that if he gets back into the White House, he will not let people from Gaza into the country and will crack down on pro-Palestine protests.

With retaliatory air strikes, the Israeli government has been killing people in Gaza while the Biden rule has pushed for sending relief aid there. Biden has said that the US has taken extra steps to make sure that Hamas doesn’t use the help for their own purposes. It has been said by both DeSantis and Haley that sending emergency help to Gaza will only make Hamas stronger in the long run.
