Yet, it appears that Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, was caught in a major lie to Congress by Homeland Security Committee Chair Mark Green.
On Wednesday, Green questioned Raul Ortiz, Chief of the Border Patrol, and asked him if the United States had “operational control of our whole border?” Ortiz responded, “No, sir.” Given that illegal immigrants appear to pour over our border at will, that is of course the truthful and obvious response.
Following a definition of “operational control,” Green showed Ortiz a video of Mayorkas testifying before Congress that the United States did indeed have operational authority over the border. Green then inquired as to Mayorkas’ veracity from Ortiz.
Initially refusing to respond, Ortiz explained that the goalposts had been moved for “mission advantage.” Green persisted in asking the query nonetheless. Ortiz said that he missed the remainder of the testimony.
In the end, Mayorkas was either exhibiting unacceptable ignorance or “it’s lying,” as Green pointed out.
During this line of questioning, the DHS realized Mayorkas was in trouble, so they released a statement to attempt to make things right.
Even that, however, was a falsehood since they tried to pin the issue on Donald Trump, who certainly had better control over the border than Joe Biden. Furthermore, Biden overturned a lot of Trump’s initial decisions, which is one of the reasons why we are in this predicament today.
If you read what Mayorkas told CNN’s Chris Wallace, he claims that operational control is the “goal”. Does he believe that submitting that now will help? In fact, it demonstrates that he was aware that his testimony to representative Chip Roy (R-TX) in 2022 was untrue. That worsens his situation. It’s past time for them to actually try to impeach this man. Regrettably, you are unlikely to find somebody sensible in that position while Biden is still in office.
Mark Green also vented his anger at the Democrats for not sending any representatives to the Committee hearing. That demonstrates just how seriously the Democrats regard the true border crisis that they contributed to, especially Joe Biden’s poor handling of the situation.
