On Sunday, NBC anchor Chuck Todd made an attempt to paint House Republicans’ investigation priorities as excessively biased. Rep. James Comer (R-KY) wasn’t having it, though.
Comer, the new head of the House Oversight Committee, promised to look into whether Biden was “personally involved in Hunter Biden’s business deals” once Republicans took control of the House. Republicans in the House claim that although Biden has denied any involvement, he “personally participated” in Hunter’s business operations.
What took place on NBC?
Todd began by stating that “many people,” though he did not name them, are worried that Republicans will be “more politicized than professional” in the inquiry. Then, he questioned Comer on how the GOP will “de-partisanize” the investigations.
Comer answered by pointing out Todd’s question’s Democratic leaning.
First, Comer emphasized that Democrats have been conducting extremely politicized probes recently. Second, studies show that the majority of Americans favor oversight inquiries of President Joe Biden.
Comer claimed that only the media and ardent Democrats believed that this was a biased probe.
“Look, the Democrats on the Ways and Means Committee immediately after disclosing Donald Trump’s taxes argued that the inquiry into the influence-peddling by the Biden family was a kind of retaliation. Are you kidding me, really? He went on. Look, a recent Harvard poll found that 65% of Americans think the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop should be looked into.”
In actuality, Comer made it clear that Joe Biden was the target of his investigation and not Hunter Biden.
“I believe that any American who has followed the political process over the previous two administrations would concur that we need to know what is permitted and what is prohibited with regard to foreign antagonistic activity among family members of U.S. presidents. Democrats voiced their displeasure about this with Jared Kushner, a top adviser in the Trump administration, while Republicans, including myself, voiced their displeasure with Hunter and Jim Biden, the president’s son and brother.”
Even though Comer had silenced Todd’s political interrogation, the NBC News host continued by alleging that Republicans were acting hypocritically by engaging in the same actions they condemned.
Comer, however, promptly refuted the charge.
He said, “We have proof to support everything that we have sought. There are emails and texts that show Hunter Biden whining about having to spend so much money keeping his dad up,” according to the evidence. “Hunter Biden’s only sources of money were from selling his influence to China and Russia, which raises some concerns.”
Comer said, “This isn’t political. We want to know if the president was being honest when he claimed he was unaware of or uninvolved in his family’s questionable business practices. We’ll continue once we’ve determined that.
