Establishment Republicans Move To Target, Destroy MAGA Politicians

Representative Tom McClintock (R-CA) wants to add a new rule that says any of the House Republicans who vote against the views of the majority on the House floor will be kicked out of the conference.

McClintock proposed the amendment to stop a small group of Republicans in a narrow majority from working with Democrats on important moves. For example, eight Republicans agreed with a single group of Democrats to dismiss Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

Less than twenty-four hours have passed since he started pushing for the amendment and this week Republicans are scheduled to vote on changes to conference procedures. After the votes on the amendments, the conference is going to decide on the candidates for Speaker.

McClintock’s modification to the rules would force a small but vocal group of Republicans, possibly as many as 49%, to follow what the majority wants.

With 221 Republicans along with 211 Democrats currently in Congress, just 111 Republican Reps, or 25.5% of the House, have the power to decide who becomes Speaker as well as what bills are brought to the floor through any future rule modifications made possible by the new rule.

Breitbart News got a copy of an email that a McClintock worker sent to GOP legislative directors:

“The suggested rule would kick members out of the Republican Conference in the event that they cast votes on the House Floor differently than the conference does on Speaker Races, Rules Votes, or a situation in which they signed a discharge petition without getting permission from the conference. Some members can be added back to the Conference if two-thirds of the Conference votes that they should be added back.”

The staff email had a message from McClintock to Republican Representatives called a “Dear Colleague” letter. It had ten numbered points of view.

In paragraph 9 of his letter, he says, “If his suggested rule passes, I believe we need to first vote to decide whether or not we should reinstate Kevin McCarthy to the position of Speaker.”

It’s not clear right away what level of support the rule would need for the conference to make it official.

This is what McClintock said in his email to Republican staff: “I feel that we are at a crossroads and that if Republicans don’t vote and work together then we are going to continue to waste the Majority. He thinks that if Congress wants to really serve the people of the United States, we need to work together as ONE Conference instead of as a bunch of separate people.”
