Despite a White House attempt to improve Kamala Harris’ reputation and highlight her achievements, a recent survey revealed very negative news for the Democratic vice president.
With a 17% gap between those who favor and those who disapprove, the survey found that her net approval rating among Americans was the lowest in NBC News polling history. According to the survey, only 32% of respondents approved of the work Harris was doing, while 49% of respondents stated they didn’t.
A net positive 23% rating for Dick Cheney, a net positive 15% rating for Al Gore, and a net positive 1% rating for Joe Biden himself was among other vice presidents who performed far better in earlier surveys.
With 4%, Mike Pence was the only other candidate with a negative net rating, but even that was far lower than Harris’.
While her staff has seen a considerable turnover as people leave for better jobs, her first tenure as vice president has been plagued by charges of incapacity and unpreparedness. Additionally, Harris’ uncomfortable repeats of basic sentences in her lectures have drawn jeers and scorn.
Some on the left have backed Harris by asserting the racism and misogyny behind her detractors’ arguments. When some Democrats began to criticize Harris in March, the co-hosts of “The View” insisted that people on the left get in line and back the Democratic nominee.
Only 43% of Americans said Harris was qualified to assume the responsibilities of the presidency, according to a second August poll, while the majority believed she was unqualified should the need arise.
According to White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients, Americans have shown “enthusiasm and excitement” regarding the vice president’s work at the White House.
In closing, Zients said, “We simply need to take steps to make certain that all of us do an excellent job of exposing” her to the American populace.
