More States Promise To Resist Federal Gun Control

More States Promise To Resist Federal Gun Control

Red states like Iowa, Ohio, Georgia, and others are considering internal restrictions on the application of federal gun laws that they view as infringing on their right to bear arms.

ATF’s AR pistol stabilizer brace rule cannot be enforced in Montana, according to Gov. Greg Gianforte (R), who told the agency on February 10 that the state had such a ban.

This same restriction is also in place in Missouri, Nebraska, and Arizona.

The Wall Street Journal reported that red states including Iowa, Ohio, Georgia, and others are considering banning the application of federal gun control laws.

The prohibition is being pushed in Iowa by state Rep. Jeff Shipley (R), and Carroll County Attorney John Werden is in favor of it.

“I don’t think this is a liberal or a conservative issue,” Werden remarked. “I consider it a matter of states’ rights.”

The Des Moines Register noted that on November 8, 2022, Iowans chose to ratify a constitutional amendment that goes beyond the Second Amendment’s provisions for gun rights.

“The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be violated,” according to the amendment. “This right is acknowledged as a fundamental human right by the independent state of Iowa. All restrictions on this privilege must pass a rigorous inspection.”
