The majority of registered voters believe that President Biden along with his son Hunter Biden participated “in an illegal influence peddling operation when he was Vice President,” based on a Harvard/Harris survey.
The question in the survey, which was conducted on May 17 and 18, asked the participants, “From what you currently know, do you believe that Hunter Biden took part in illegal influence peddling as well as tax evasion, or do you believe he wasn’t involved with these crimes?”
65 percent of respondents who were registered voters not affiliated with the two main parties and 63 percent of Republicans felt that Hunter Biden “was a participant in illegal influence.” More than four out of 10 Democrats share this viewpoint.
53 percent of respondents agree that President Biden and his son participated “in an illegal influence peddling operation” when he was vice president. This includes the majority of Republicans (79%) and independents (58%), but the majority of Democrats (75%) believe the contrary.
In addition, 66 percent of Democrats believe the FBI is “fully looking into” Hunter Biden’s laptop or his “foreign business dealings,” in contrast to 55 percent of all participants who say the agency is “not really fully investigating” the matter.
A further finding of the study was that a whopping 70% of registered voters had serious reservations about “interference by the FBI and intelligence groups in any future presidential election.” Compared to 30% who are unconcerned, a majority of 37% are “Very concerned” and 33% are “Somewhat concerned.”
Additionally, respondents were asked “whether they believed the US government needed extensive reform to stop law enforcement and the intelligence community from interfering in elections or if reforms had already been taken post-2016 to prevent such influence.”
Majorities across all political spectrums and more than seven in ten survey respondents think “wide-ranging reform” is required to stop the intelligence community and also law enforcement from interfering in elections. Significant improvements are required, according to 76% of Republicans, 65% of Democrats, and 72% of both independent and third-party voters.
The survey also evaluated a potential general election contest between Biden and Trump, the front-runner among Republicans. 47 percent of respondents said they would support Trump, compared to 40 percent who would support Biden, giving him a commanding advantage. Since last month, his lead has increased by a net of two points. At 50% and 39%, respectively, he has an 11-point advantage against Vice President Kamala Harris.
The survey was conducted on May 17 and 18, and 2,004 registered voters were included in the sample.
