New Survey Shows What Americans Really Want For Ukraine-Russia War

New Survey Shows What Americans Really Want For Ukraine-Russia War

The majority of Americans want their political officials to stop funding Ukraine with their tax dollars so that it can be at war with Russia.

According to a poll conducted by the polling firm SSRS, which was commissioned by the liberal news station CNN.

According to the survey, 45% of respondents believe Congress should continue to approve financing for Ukraine while 55% believe it should not. While 48% believe the U.S. should do more, 51% believe it has gone above and beyond enough to assist Ukraine.

When Russia started its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, things were very different. 62% of people back then felt that America should have been contributing more.

Most Americans are worried about how Russia’s conflict will affect U.S. national security, looking past the immediate repercussions of the situation in Ukraine. However, this worry has lessened since February 2022, when 72% of those surveyed were concerned regarding security threats to the US.

There is some bipartisan consensus, even if Democrats are more likely than Republicans to believe that the US should keep funding the conflict in Ukraine. Nearly 80% of respondents express anxiety that the conflict will continue without coming to an end, including 82% of the Democrats, 75% of the independents, and 73% of the Republicans.

A majority of participants (65%) and around two-thirds (64%) are concerned that the conflict in Ukraine might heighten risks to democracy elsewhere or trigger Russian strikes in other areas. Finally, around 60% of people worry that the dispute will worsen and turn into a major war in Europe.

But the level of bipartisanship ends there. Republicans strongly oppose authorizing further funds (71%) and maintain that the United States has already provided enough assistance to Ukraine (59%). Democrats, on the other hand, are more likely to take the opposing viewpoint, with 62% of them believing that more funds and action from the US are necessary.

Independents generally believe that the US has given Ukraine enough assistance (56%) and are opposed to providing more (55%).

Majorities of all political parties concur that the US should support Ukraine’s intelligence collection efforts (70% of Democrats, 63% of Independents, and 56% of Republicans). Military training is supported by almost two-thirds of Democrats (64%), while only approximately half of those who are independent and Republican (48% each) share this opinion.

When it comes to arming Ukraine, there is a stark political gap, with 61% of Democrats supporting it as opposed to 39% of independents and just 30% of Republicans. Less than 20% of people from all political parties support sending US military personnel into battle (19% of Democrats, 18% of Independents, and 16% of Republicans).

The CNN poll, carried out by SSRS from July 1 to July 31, polled a random nationwide sample of 1,279 respondents who were first contacted by mail. Internet or phone polls with actual interviewers were also used. The margin of sampling error for the entire sample in the survey is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points, with a greater margin for subgroups.
