California Governor Gavin Newsom, a hard-left Democrat with his eyes set on the White House in 2028, is suddenly breaking ranks with his party on one of its most radical positions—allowing biological men to compete against women in sports. In a shocking moment during an interview with conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Newsom admitted that forcing females to compete against male athletes is “deeply unfair.”
Yes, you read that right. One of the most progressive governors in America just agreed with conservatives on an issue that Democrats have championed for years.
“I think it’s an issue of fairness; I completely agree with you on that. It is an issue of fairness—it’s deeply unfair,” Newsom stated, leaving many on the left scrambling to do damage control. “I am not wrestling with the fairness issue. I totally agree with you. I revere sports. So, the issue of fairness is completely legit.”
Kirk pointed out that polling consistently shows Americans overwhelmingly oppose male athletes invading women’s sports, and Newsom conceded that Democrats are “getting crushed” on the issue.
But just when it seemed like Newsom might be standing up for common sense, he quickly tried to soften his stance, pivoting to the usual leftist talking points about “trans rights.”
“These poor people are more likely to commit suicide [through] anxiety and depression,” Newsom lamented. “And the way that people talk down to vulnerable communities is an issue that I have a hard time with as well. So both things I can hold in my hand.”
Translation: He knows the left is losing on this issue, but he still won’t fully take a stand against the radical gender movement that’s destroying women’s sports.
Women’s sports advocate Riley Gaines wasn’t buying his weak attempt at fence-sitting. She called out Newsom’s cowardice on X, saying, “He admits the unfairness is a problem but won’t take meaningful action out of fear of being perceived as unkind.”
Wow. This is the first time I’ve seen Newsom directly asked this question. As you'd expect, he continues to sit on the fence.

And let’s be clear—Newsom’s sympathy argument doesn’t hold up against the actual data. Despite his claim that transgender suicide rates stem from societal rejection, studies show that depression and suicide rates increase after so-called “gender-affirming care.” In reality, the left’s obsession with pushing trans ideology is causing more harm than good.
So, what’s really going on here? Is Newsom trying to quietly reposition himself for a presidential run by shedding some of the more extreme baggage of the Democrat Party? It certainly looks that way. After all, his party has been steamrolling over parental rights and women’s protections for years, and now—conveniently, when the political winds are shifting—he suddenly sees the light?
Don’t be fooled. If Newsom truly believed women’s sports deserve protection, he’d back President Trump’s “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” executive order. But he won’t. Because, at the end of the day, Gavin Newsom isn’t about fairness—he’s about power.
