Pelosi Faces Her Greatest Challenge Yet — And Totally Fails

Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, recently celebrated Women’s Equality Day in San Francisco, though she made absolutely zero mention of the bombings in Kabul, which killed 12 American service members just hours earlier.

Appearing alongside London Breed, the Mayor of San Francisco, and other officials, Pelosi promulgated Joe Biden’s “Build Back Better” multi-trillion dollar spending package, which is filled with provisions presumably designed to help women. These provisions purportedly include paid family leave time, along with an extension of the child tax credit.

Pelosi proclaimed, “when women succeed, America succeeds.”

However, Pelosi did not address the suicide bombings that had taken place in Kabul earlier in the day, which killed 12 Americans and harmed 15 others during the United States’ ongoing evacuation efforts in the nation. The Afghan government collapsed and fell into the Taliban’s hands on August 15.

On Thursday, two separate explosions occurred outside the Harmid Karzai International Airport of Kabul, with one explosion occurring near the Baron Hotel, where Americans had been previously evacuated via helicopters, and another occurring just outside the airport’s Abbey Gate.

The office of Pelosi sent out a statement on Thursday that expresses mourning for “the loss of every innocent life taken” and “strongly condemns the heinous terrorist attack.”

The statement also claims that over 100,000 individuals have been evacuated from Afghanistan due to the support of the American military and allies, while also insisting that the federal government “remains deeply concerned about the security and humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.”

Pelosi’s office also noted that Congress will remain “closely informed” and “Committees of Jurisdiction will continue to hold briefings on Afghanistan.”

Later in the afternoon, Pelosi tweeted the statement from her office. This tweet occurred well after her speech, as well as well after she sent out four separate tweets regarding Women’s Equality Day and Biden’s massive spending agenda.

Needless to say, her various statements on numerous topics unrelated to the international crisis drew sharp rebukes from Republicans in Congress.

For instance, Representative Jim Banks (R-IN), who is a member of the House Committee on Armed Services, criticized both Biden and Pelosi for their relative silence on Afghanistan. Before 3:00 p.m., Pelosi had tweeted in favor of spending trillions of dollars, though she had remained silent about the loss of American lives in Afghanistan.

Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., a member of the House Committee on Armed Services, slammed Pelosi and President Biden for their silence, noting shortly before 3 p.m. that she tweeted about Biden’s “Build Back Better” plan, but nothing about the American lives lost in Afghanistan.
