Portland Mayor Removes Protective Barriers Around ICE Facility

Portland Mayor Removes Protective Barriers Around ICE Facility

Once again, Portland’s far-left leadership has shown where their loyalties lie—and it’s not with law and order. This week, Portland Mayor Keith Wilson ordered the removal of police tape and barriers that were protecting a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility. That tape was put there to safeguard federal officers and the building during a visit by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. But barely a day later, Wilson pulled it all down.

Let’s be clear: this wasn’t just some traffic cone situation. The federal government, including the U.S. Attorney for Oregon, had made it crystal clear that ICE officers needed a secure perimeter around their facility. Officers must be able to enter and exit without being harassed or attacked. That’s not just a preference—it’s a basic requirement for them to do their jobs. But Mayor Wilson ignored those warnings and decided that “local public safety professionals” would make their own calls. Translation? The radicals running Portland care more about political theater than protecting our laws and the people who enforce them.

This is the same Portland that for years has coddled violent protesters, allowed anarchists to take over city blocks, and turned a blind eye to chaos in the streets. Now they’re doing it again—this time by stripping away simple safety measures around a federal building. The ICE facility isn’t some nameless office. It’s where federal agents carry out critical missions to protect our borders, enforce immigration laws, and keep dangerous criminals off our streets. Yet the mayor acts like ICE is the enemy.

Let’s not forget what ICE really does. These men and women go after drug smugglers, human traffickers, and violent gang members who threaten our families and communities. They enforce the immigration laws passed by Congress. And in cities like Portland, where local leaders refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, the job becomes even more dangerous. That’s why the federal government asked for a secure area around the building. But Portland’s mayor decided otherwise.

Mayor Wilson even wrote to the Department of Homeland Security’s legal team, basically saying, “Thanks for your concern, but we’ll do it our way.” That’s not leadership—it’s arrogance. And it puts lives at risk.

Meanwhile, President Trump is doing what a real leader should. He called for deploying the National Guard to Portland to restore order and protect federal property. But his plan has been slowed by legal battles and resistance from liberal activists who are more worried about optics than safety.

What we’re seeing in Portland is what happens when left-wing politicians put ideology ahead of duty. They treat federal officers like villains while letting lawless behavior go unchecked. They tear down barriers meant to protect, all while preaching about community safety. It’s backwards, it’s reckless, and it’s exactly why so many Americans have had enough.

It’s time for cities like Portland to remember that we are a nation of laws. That federal officers deserve respect and protection, not scorn. That immigration laws matter, and ICE agents are doing a job that most of these politicians wouldn’t dare attempt.

President Trump is right to push back. The federal government cannot allow its officers to be bullied out of doing their jobs. If local leaders won’t uphold the law, then Washington must step in and do it for them.

Mayor Wilson may think he’s standing up for Portland, but in reality, he’s standing in the way of law enforcement and public safety. The American people see through it. We know who’s protecting the country—and it’s not the mayor of Portland. It’s the brave men and women in uniform, and the president who has their backs.
