Republican Party Breaks Out Into Civil–You Won’t Believe Why

Republican Senator Rick Scott of Florida is launching a drive to unseat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell as Senate Republican leader.

“I’m writing to you today because I feel it is time for the Senate GOP Conference to be significantly more courageous and steadfast than in the past. We need to speak up and say what we stand for rather than simply what we are against” Scott stated in a letter to colleagues, which Fox News published.

“We know that a lack of Republican voter turnout was a major issue in contests across the country. There could be several reasons for this, but after traveling around the country to back our candidates, I feel voters want a strategy. They’re pleading with us to tell them what we’ll do once we’re in charge. Unfortunately, we have persisted to elect politicians who refuse to do so and vilify those who do. That plainly isn’t working, and it’s time for a big adjustment” he wrote.

Scott, who serves as the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, made several promises regarding how he would manage the role if elected Senate GOP leader, including that he’ll never ask lawmakers to vote on a measure they have not reviewed and that he will never press them to vote in a way that is contrary to the best interests of their state or the framework on which they campaigned for office.

“Whether they support me or not, I will work extremely hard to help elect all GOP Senators,” Scott stated. “I will also never surprise you with legislation and expect you to vote on something you haven’t reviewed,” he said. “I vowed to lead the conference in drafting a constructive, aspirational agenda that describes our legislation goals and what Senate Republicans stand for,” he said. “I will never put pressure on you to vote against what you campaigned on or against what is best for your state.”

Because Democrats will keep control of the United States Senate next year, the Senate Republican leader will serve as the Senate minority leader instead of as the Senate majority leader.

McConnell, a Kentucky senator who has been in the Senate for over three decades, has served as either the Senate minority leader or majority leader since 2007.

Previous President Donald Trump has been a harsh critic of McConnell, describing him as a “lapdog” for Dems. and an “absolute Loser… that caves every time against the Democrats” in Sept. “McConnell is so awful!” Trump shouted in another statement.
