Texas Governor Greg Abbott has strongly criticized the Biden administration’s handling of the border crisis and accused them of using migrants for political purposes. The governor’s comments came in response to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s assertion that Texas is using migrants as a “political stunt.”
Jean-Pierre’s statement aimed at Governor Abbott characterized his actions as “shameful,” particularly regarding the busing and flying of migrants. However, Abbott pointed out the inconsistency in the Biden administration’s response, highlighting that both New York City and Chicago are sanctuary cities known for their protections of immigrants. Furthermore, Abbott questioned why the federal government’s transportation of migrants from border processing sites to various localities across the nation does not receive the same criticism.
Governor Abbott said that the Biden administration is attempting to divert attention from its own inadequate response to the border crisis by criticizing Texas. He emphasized that Texas has been actively addressing the situation by transporting over 95,000 migrants to sanctuary cities and implementing measures such as erecting land and water barriers to prevent illegal border crossings.
Despite Texas taking proactive steps to address the border crisis, the Justice Department has filed lawsuits against the state over these barriers. In an additional development, the Justice Department is now seeking Supreme Court approval to allow Border Patrol agents to cut through razor wire barriers that were installed to deter illegal entry into the U.S.
Governor Abbott’s outspoken criticism underscores the ongoing tensions between the federal government and Texas over immigration policies and border security. He remains steadfast in his commitment to addressing the border crisis and has made it clear that Texas will continue its efforts until the Biden administration reverses its open-border policies.
