Bill Maher is in favor of President Joe Biden withdrawing from the presidential contest so that Democrats can select a different contender for 2024.
The comedian declared that California Governor Gavin Newsom would be his pick.
“But we need to start discussing who the Democrats should put on the ballot in November, whether it’s Mr. Newsom or someone else. In essence, in this race, there is a tie for everyone whose name ends in a D. In an opinion post, Maher asserted that “being a new face with less time in the spotlight = ‘America’s less bored of you,’ equals that extra percentage that would make for a winning ticket.”
“What happened at the debate last week was actually a blessing rather than a catastrophe.”
Biden, the Democratic nominee, fared poorly during a debate last week against former President Donald Trump, the presumed GOP presidential candidate for 2024.
“Everyone ages differently; it really depends on the circumstances, as the discussion made clear. Whatever your opinion of Mr. Trump, he was energetic; Mr. Biden lacked energy, Maher pointed out.
The events of last week’s debate were not a disaster, but rather a fortunate turn of events.
Since then, whenever I would bring up that idea—in public or privately—people have always rejected it out of hand, telling me to get on board. Democrats are unlikely to adopt his position. That is not negotiable. It’s on the table now, as it should have been all along,” Maher said.
Maher said the Democrats would benefit from an open convention.
He claimed that even with all of George Soros’ financial resources, Democrats “could not purchase, with all of their passion, participation, and interest, what they would gain from having an open convention—and in Chicago, no less, legendary for Democratic convention drama.”
