Trump Republicans Score Big Wins

Trump Republicans Score Big Wins

The recent statewide elections in Louisiana saw a clean sweep by Trump-endorsed Republicans, with significant victories in the races for attorney general, secretary of state, and state treasurer. This follows the success of Attorney General Jeff Landry (R-LA), another Trump-backed candidate, who won the governorship in a jungle primary last month.

Liz Murrill (R), who served as Louisiana’s Solicitor General, won the attorney general race with a convincing 30-point margin over her Democratic opponent, Lindsey Cheek. Garnering 66.4 percent of the vote with 95 percent reported, Murrill’s victory was a clear endorsement by the voters of her candidacy.

Similarly, in the secretary of state race, Nancy Landry (R), First Assistant Secretary of State, secured a substantial win with 66.8 percent of the vote against Democrat Gwen Collins-Greenup. Nancy Landry’s 33-point victory margin reflected strong voter support, with 95 percent of the vote counted.

For the state treasurer position, former U.S. Rep. John Fleming (R-LA), who previously advised President Trump, triumphed over Democrat Dustin Granger by a 30-point lead. Fleming captured approximately 65 percent of the vote, indicating a robust backing from the electorate.

Fleming, in his victory speech, highlighted economic development as a key priority, drawing on his experience in Washington under President Trump. He expressed enthusiasm about working with the new governor, Jeff Landry, and the legislature to advance economic growth in Louisiana.

These wins are significant for the Republican Party, especially as they head into the 2024 election cycle. The results in Louisiana suggest a strong endorsement of Trump-backed candidates and may signal a positive outlook for the GOP in upcoming elections. Grassroots activists and political observers are noting the impact of these results, particularly in the context of the national political landscape and the challenges posed to the Biden administration and Democratic Party.
