Former President Donald Trump demanded the retirement of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for supposedly “illegally” leaking the charges to the media.
According to an exclusive story on Monday from Yahoo News, the former president “has been indicted with 34 felony counts for falsification of business documents, according to a source briefed on the procedures for the former president’s arraignment.”
“In New York, the allegation of falsifying company documents is usually prosecuted as a misdemeanor.” According to the source, Bragg’s office “upgraded each of the charges to Class E felonies — the lowest class of felonies in the New York State penal code — on the basis that the behavior was meant to conceal another underlying crime.”
“A conviction for the Class E felony of falsifying company records under the New York State penal code could result in a prison sentence of up to four years. However, in practice, that appears exceedingly improbable. As a first-time offender, no one gets jail time for that,” a New York law enforcement source said.
“The proof for the crime that pushed Trump’s alleged misdemeanors into felony realm remains unclear, and will be up until the indictment is published. However, it is thought to be connected to the payment of $130,000 to porn actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election in order to hide an adulterous affair with Trump.”
Shortly after the story was published, the former president said on his Truth Social account that Bragg had “illegally” disclosed the indictment and that he should resign.
“Wow! District Attorney Bragg has just illegitimately LEAKED the various points and full details on the pitiful Indictment against me. I know the reporter, and he does too,” the former president remarked. “This means he must be charged immediately. Now, if he truly wants to repair his image, he will do the right thing and INDICT HIMSELF as District Attorney. He will be remembered in judicial history, and his anti-Trump wife will be very pleased with him!”
“D.A. BRAGG JUST LEAKED THE 33 POINTS OF INDICTION ILLEGALLY. There are not any changes or surprises from what he revealed straight from the Grand Jury a few days ago. Trump has committed no crime. What a shambles. Bragg should resign RIGHT NOW!” he said in a later tweet.
